While not strictly an OS holiday ( we depart and arrive from Sydney ) , we've just booked a cruise for Dec 22 .

So what's everyone else thinking about when and under what circumstances they'll start going on OS holidays again ?

My thinking is that I want to have my own testing capacity ( there now ) and oral anti viral ( covid ) tabs I can take if my test comes back positive . I'd also want to go somewhere with a first world level hospital and a pretty good track record of taking covid seriously . Also I'd want a good insurance policy that does cover Covid ( might be expensive )

Am itchy to book something...also have credits from an airline for trips we couldn't take in 2020.

However, two of my kids are in Yr 11/12 in the next couple of years and from what people are telling me, going away (at any time for any duration) whilst they're in the business end of their schooling life is a no no :(

We were going away at least twice a year internationally prior to COVID.

Personally I feel there is a window of about next 6 months or so where overseas travel is possible (from NSW/VIC anyways) before fully vaccinated definition will change to 3 doses and there is always a possibility of a new strain. Apparently cases are going up again in parts of Europe and the US.

If anyone needs to see family overseas, now is the time to do so (I did it as soon as borders opened).

We were thinking of waiting but really liked our last cruise on Celebrity in Aqua class and those are starting to book out . By accident in 19 we realised that cruises around a month before Chrissie are a fair bit cheaper ( obvious not much demand ) so we started looking at that . Checked out the cabin reviews on Cruise Critic and saw that the " preferred " ones were almost gone , so took the plunge .

Leaving Sydney on 9th Dec on a south Pacific cruise .

You could do what my parents did…. It was the year 11/12 holidays for me and my family took the younger kids on a holiday, flying to Tas.
Left me with an Aunty. Most boring week ever.

Have I got over it? Well, it’s more than 25 years later…. Clearly no.

It seems ludicrous that people can venture O/S and yet I can't get into the Kimberleys!

First overseas will be to NZ mid-2022 ... visit my mum, who I won't have seen for 3 years - although we do "chat" via messenger most days

Yes . according to the website , everyone who can be vaccinated will be . That does open up a grey area of how they determine who can't be vaccinated ....

I’m musing over a west coast US Trailer Park tour. Not sure if distemper vaccines are for humans but maybe just in case.

looked at princess , and we’ll go with them one day. Friends went on Norwegian and were impressed .

chose the celebrity one due to the price for aqua class in early December . Also liked the itinerary . Isle of pines is nice . Hit the boats early and spend some time snorkeling and then have a lazy lunch at the nearby resort which has a old school laid back pacific island resort feel .

With what's going on around the Globe at the moment re : Covid outbreaks, new variants, I wouldn't be rushing out to book an 0/S trip anytime soon.
