Hi all, for new kitchen for short term PPOR to become IP, what are people's thoughts on locating the oven under benchtop v in a tower?
Plan is also to reval property post Reno for future deposits so valuer impression helps if the choice makes a difference although I doubt it.

My preference is under bench located under the gas hot plate as I think it looks better and neater.

However for practical purposes it has been suggested to place the oven in a tower, ie pot drawers underneath, microwave space & cupboards above etc. This option is more at a persons standing height so I can see this is more ergonomic option for oven access.

Cost of both options is similar.

    Thoughts please?

One thing to keep in mind is who you're pitching the property at - people with little kids will always prefer an oven in a tower, as it's safer - harder for the little ones to get into.

Depends on how much area you have to play with ?

This is our whole kitchen !
Limited space (one wall !) so right to left
Narrow tall pantry, the fridge takes up most room,
    1.5 oven over dishwasher
Full opening draws under induction cook top
Sink in island with microwave under 20161021_091435.jpg

I would think a tower is for more high end kitchens. If your ip is in a market that tower fits into then go tower. Otherwise under bench will be cheaper, easier to install and replace later having more selections

Check out what they have installed in each of the kitchens in 'the Block'.

I prefer under the gas hot plates but that's because I'm short, so the thought of microwave space higher up doesn't work for me..

Tower every time. More out of reach for little ones, less bending to clean and safer access with hot dishes. And better for older people too.

When we renovated our kitchen I told the sweet young wife of the cabinet maker who came to discuss the design that I was having an elevated stove - the one with the oven beside the hot plates. Two large windows in our kitchen ruled out a tower as I wanted a larger pantry.

She was quite horrified and said that was very old fashioned and her nanna had one. Laughed as I told her that her nanna was probably around my age.....

@Stoffo - arrrgh! the oven (heat source) is adjacent to the fridge. These are usually separated a bit more than you've got as the fridge/freezer has to work harder to maintain temperature .

Many an hour was devoted to the "discussion" of the design:rolleyes:
As i am sure most couples end up doing o_O
    Mrs chose the colors:p
We modified the old window behind the cook top to suit our design, at night it looks just like a glass splashback :D
@scottnomates there is no radiant heat from the oven to the side panel of the fridge cavity ;)
One thing i will say, Mrs Stoffo it only 5'3 and has to be careful using the top oven, as she has bumped her arm on the door reaching over it before  all good though as we mostly use the lower section (smaller oven heats up in no time/uses less power)

Cool use of colours. Couldn't go all black but the black/white/red mix looks great.

Thanks PCers for fast responses. Was suggested to me a tower but lots of those points (esp kids access as it's a 4 bedder house) make a lot of sense. Cheers

    @craigc
Having had both styles, in our last 2 kitchen designs, we both much prefer the tower :D
I resent having to bend down to the microwave these days, as i can glance at the oven on my way to the fridge :p
Tell me someone isn't happy with her new kitchen

One of those ovens with a sideways opening door would solve the 'arm bumping' issue.
