I think this thread may be fun…..post pictures if you like

    Maybe I am wrong but……

Colours….. grey is on the nose now, replaced now with whites, everything is OK if its white

As much as I like theatre rooms, I think they are not that popular anymore, same as separate dining rooms???

When I was a kid (UK 1960s) ordinary people had white bathroom suites. If you were better off you had a coloured suite - one of pink, pale blue or green.
When I was a young adult (1970s), most people went for avocado but stylish people went for orange, black, maroon, dark brown ..... must have been a stockists nightmare
Now anything but white is naff.
    Will history repeat itself?

I bought my 40yr old brick house a few years ago intending to paint inside white or similar but on moving in I realised that the architraves, doors, window frames and verandah railings were all brown. I thought again and decided I could live with the older look so kept the brown architraves etc painted all the rooms pale grey and installed dark grey/blue carpet throughout.

The house from the outside shrieks over 40 yrs old and I believe you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ears so.the interior matches the era and to my mind is now quietly elegant [?] well, I think so ... :D

Love it - I actually like the solid fortress look :) Give me that any day over rendered blueboards and plastic weatherboard.

(Yep, we have a Mediterranean fortress too, high side of the street, easier to defend from frontal attacks etc :D)

I'm doing up an in old fibro place from the 80s at the moment .....

So far in my list of "that's GOT to go" have been cheap plastic chandeliers in each room, old school fluro light tubes in the dining room, vertical blinds, plastic toilet roll holder, half-tinted windows and box aircons....

    The journey continues...

My house was pink purple and yellow walls and stained floorboards....not to mention 3 layers of tiles including cork and lino and the old school gold hanging lights...plus mission brown pretty much everywhere...

Yellow bottle glass in the front door side panel (and other locations).
    Paisley and shag pile carpet
First kitchen I built Canary Yellow Formica and Mission brown on the wood ceiling. This look just preceded the Avocado and orange.

What I do miss are those Caroma plastic bathroom fittings - cheap, solid and great designs.

Here's some pics of my first reno in 1991. Back then whites and neutrals weren't a thing and everyone liked bright colours. I used salmon pink and aqua teal on the woodwork and the walls are painted light pink. Slate was popular then so I laid some in front of the fireplaces. Pulling off the render in the hallway to expose the bricks was probably a mistake and I wouldn't do it again

The red, black and white interior theme was pretty gross.

Some people still do it

The floor, tables and chairs remind me of an out west NSW bowling club not renovated since of the 70s...

    I think I've just gone blind :eek::eek::eek:

Here's another reno I did in 1996. It's a unit in St Kilda so I was trying to do a beachy theme with blue and yellow and back then feature walls were popular. Colours and trends tend to change every 10-12 years
