    Yes because I am looking at a discount to the long-term trend. That is not the only criteria I use, just one I consider. I also also use it for comparison purposes with other investment options. I just pick and choose where to put my funds and when.

    I think that hits the nail on the head.

    consistency of dividends over time is an easy way to determine the performance of a company and cashflow management. Plus you can use this as an indication of when you should be getting out.

    If you look at at yield alone, you may get burnt as the shareprice moves first then the dividend, which would produce a higher yield.

    franking credits are a bonus that for some reason get ignored when taking into account total return.
