I mentioned him some time ago, excellent thread.

What you don't know though is that Oscar is on a 7 figure income, lives abroad, access to US$, and married no children.

He also invested in US market with great success.

Its not an even playing field some people can have an unfair advantage and smart enough to take advantage of this, good on them read this

    Unfair Advantages

I think his first few millions were made purely on his property portfolio in sydney ?

In that case , he must be on his way to 10 million at least by now:D

MTR: sounds as if u know him personally; maybe you can persuade him to post/update his story for us :)

Yes property and shares, buying in Syd and US early stages

But it was also the massive income that helped.

Had some contact with him as we were both investing in US at same time

ATO should do a poll on how many properties u control instead of own instead... much truer reflection

It's interesting when going to meetup, most would ask what my portfolio is like... i would usually say 'nothin''.

read the thread re Oscar - thoroughly enjoyed it and very inspiring, thanks for the link , low maintenance syd units in bluechip areas certainly a formula for success if held for the long haul

although no kids and very good income certainly helps! esp no rugrats part - gives time and energy to focus on your career/business to generate more $ until it becomes self-propogating

Question is, what's a happy number for people to be happy with? Some people are quite content on having a PPOR paid off, some others maybe a PPOR and an investment property or two. More is not always better and results in a diminished return in happiness, but in saying that would like to hit the double digit soon.....

I want the latest numbers - does anyone know when they will be released? Particularly for this exact info?

That link is very old and not reflective of todays investor numbers.

The happy number depends really on the property and your time in life/circumstances
Some properties don't seem like properties as there is nothing to do. .ie almost boring
    Others so much to do.
With my current mix i would say no more bulding and land (80) tenants and more land (25) tenants say 500 more.
You do need volume in one location with land to reduce the cost of the rental valuations
    So all in all
    Residental properties 1 (PPOR)
    Commercial tenants 50 (mix)
    Lessors interest 500 (7 groups 7yr reviews so one a year )
That i believe is a happy mix

A simple test is to ask ourselves how many people we personally know who have more than 3 IP's?

Given that the demographic of everyone here is like-minded IP investors, and as such are a minority of Australians; but are more inclined and more likely to know of others who are more active and accomplished investors....if we don't know many people who own more than 3 (or even 1) then this would indicate that there are not very many.

I know literally not one human in my sphere of humans I deal with who owns more than 2 IP's....most own none, and a handful own 1.

By the way; I do not class a holiday home as an IP...it must be an income producing property.

Interesting....I personally know heaps of people with lots of IP's.....but these are people that I have met through the years via forum meetups. Outside of this, well, there's one fellow I know, that has retired early. Another two that have rural holdings....large ones, but not really IP's. I'm not sure how they get income from them, but they do. Several relatives have (or had) one or two, not sure if that's because they saw us doing well. Two posties, who ask me for advice....not sure how they found out we have stuff, I think because they mentioned they were looking to buy something. A good friend has one, and I think a few others have mentioned it, but I generally don't say anything unless asked, but again, only one or two properties..
