Except the author, Kate Forbes, is not a Boomer :D.

I believe she is a Gen X and a younger one at that (close to being a Millennial).

Do you want to change your post to:-

“Shouldn't we assume this Gen X is full of BS ...”

    My answer is No.

    Gotta disagree.

I would rather invest in ”the growth of the asset (the land)” without making principal payments. In other words, Interest Only payments for me.
    Gotta disagree again.

I invest in shares for dividends and I prefer Dividend Growth, not company growth per se.
I believe Kate was commenting from a renter’s perspective that rent money is dead money.

Obviously from a landlord perspective, it is definitely not dead money.
    Gotta disagree again.

I believe it never “make sense to rent instead of buy” if you buy nothing with the savings eg shares and/or property.

My apologies then as I did not investigate enough to determine the age of the author but assumed your comment "Another Baby Boomer having a shot at Millenials" was accurate.

As for whether the article is BS or not........a good argument could be made in support of either viewpoint.

See I see that as someone with a business that's involved in the sale of real estate writing an advertorial with the aim of drumming up business, not a lecture from a boomer to a millennial. Plus it was written by a woman named Kate Forbes, who, based purely on photographs, looks more Gen X to me, but I could be wrong.

There's probably an equivalent article from the same company exhorting boomers to downsize, upsize, get a holiday home etc. Sort of what they do...

No - I saw it later. I made the forum error of commenting on something where the conversation had already significantly moved on...

More than likely this approach would only apply to those who have children or other close relatives. If you are in a position where your income is more than enough to meet your needs and wants, give the excess money to them.

I can almost now hear the hue and cry of "But, but, but and what about...." However, if you dump $20 or $30k or whatever into their accounts and it doesn't adversely impact you, why not do it?
