Hi All, is there an easy/free way to obtain drawings and plans of developments happening within specific councils? Do they make this info available to the public without charging a fee?

Many council's websites have portals to past and current DAs. You can access all their documentation.

And if it not of their website then simply email the council requesting
    the information.

All notifiable development must be advertised and put inpublic display ie council website, library & plans sent to neighbours.

Previous consents are available in some cases on the council website.

If all else fails, you can apply for the documentation under the freedom of information act.

Slightly off topic but worth sharing for those unaware.

You can also sign up to be sent alerts of all applications around a specific address. I've had these set up for quite some time for different areas. Great insights can be had whether it's new apartments, renovations, extensions, new cafes, liquor licences:

Lyndon - just look up the council agendas. They will either have it on-line as part of the uploaded PDF, as a link inside a PDF, or an application number for a JDAP search and they are all uploaded to the Commission's website.

highly illegal as they are a conduit for SPAM.

I've been fighting these w*n*e*s for 3 years trying to get them to black out my details on all planning apps coming through - only recently have they actually done it.

The amount of unsolicited emails I got from peddlers is ridiculous - got to the point where I had to change my Facebook name and all.

You seem to have had a rather different experience to me, @Aaron Sice.

I've been getting phone calls from people who want to purchase a block of land in a rezoning I did. It's either from there or from the Council report as I'm not the land owner, only the representative of the land owner.

Had this happen to me a few times too. Annoying.

Back to the OP, if you can't find the plans online you can pay a small fee to council and request a copy.

Yeah, back to topic. Most councils in NSW will release them - but often without the floor plans for privacy reasons.

Anyone have any idea how to get plans that are not lodged in council but approved by private certifiers (Complying development/CDC route). This is for NSW.. thanks
