Can a Council stop collecting rubbish if the rates are in arrears?

    They don’t usually.

In Vic, rubbish is an extra charge on top of rates.

Usually they just go through debt enforcement. Why would they bother being so petty when they have know you a perfectly good asset they can enforce against?

Contractors just look for the right coloured bin lid and dont care if your rates are unpaid. Privacy means they cant be told either. Council could sieze the bin on bin day however.

Does it? The holder of the information may pass on any relevant details to it's contractors, business partners, suppliers etc.

    They'd have to tell someone.

So I don't pay Westpac card and Netflix could stop my account because Westpac tell them I did not pay? No. Same with council. They can't tell a contractor you are a debt issue to council and cease services. Third line forcing is prohibited. Council can only enforce its debt

Council contractor did tell council that we had an extra bin. Different scenario I guess, but contractor did tell council and we were chased up.

Contractor (driver?) must have got tired of always having more bins than houses in our street and did tell someone. Next thing council gets in touch with us and says return the bin or pay for the extra collection.

Contractors don't get paid more to collect illegal bins. They self regulate their likely contract price to exclude scammers
