Hi everyone, Great to see such a vibrant forum site. My previous searches for property information on the internet has always led me to salespeople, spruikers and shysters. This feels very different. I am a home owner and formerly an IP owner. I'm on the fence as to whether property is a great investment for the coming years. But also can say that I have been wrong in having that attitude in the past - so time will tell. I have had some experiences where noise has seriously damaged my standard of living (and I don't think I am a noise NIMBY). I am now passionate about helping people find out if their future property has a noise problem. I'll stop any spruiking here - but probably will end up a corporate member before long. But I still want to be a constructive listener and participant on the forums. Stuart Clough Founder Noise#Net
Good initiative and welcome to the forums. Its always good to see fellow entrepreneurs who are also into property investment. Hope to see you here more often.
Everywhere in past 10 years I have bought or rent has ended up with a yappy fluffy ratdog next door which has driven me nuts. As in any noise eg opening a window or door resulted in a 10 min barking tirade. New ppor has a few acre exclusion zone in all directions so no chance of a yapper in close proximity ever again
Welcome Stuart. Our previous place was a unit where the people upstairs had hardwood floors put in and it drove me nuts that they were frequently dropping what sounded like marbles or ball bearings. They didn't have kids, so I think it bugged me more not knowing exactly what it was or why they kept doing it than the actual noise! What was worse noise-wise was the before/after-school care that was set up next door. While it wasn't a problem during the middle of the day - my wife was working shift work at the time and it was always very noisy at times she was trying to sleep.
Noisy neighbours incl yappy dogs and/or bass music have driven us out of at least a couple of houses. I love dogs but we don't leave ours outside barking all day. Visited many prospective ppors only to hear said dog yapping somewhere close by. Seems to be the norm in many places.
I get drunk, fall asleep on the lounge and then start snoring. My snoring can be heard by people walking by the house. No star for me.
We've got a little fluffy yappy pooch! And we live in a townhouse..... But a $50 citronella barking collar fixes the problem....doesn't hurt the dog (although we get dirty looks..) and everyone is happy. oh, and welcome!
