    Must say, I only go via the PM's reco's or word of mouth (neighbour usually).... my mum's a bit more adventurous and just grabs anyone form the local paper to do things....

    It would definitely depend on the scale of Reno too,

    Obviously you wouldn't check references for someone to replace a tap head

    Unfortunate situation...and remember this is only one side of the story.

    It was perfect for 18mths...maybe something else was responsible for the movement, like stumps moving under the house etc.

    They say the gap between tiles wasn't big enough to allow for movement, I'm no expert but the photo showing the toilet, looking at the wall tiles the gap looks pretty normal to me.

    Checking references, they're likely to only provide good ones that could be a mate etc

    Word of mouth recommendations is probably the best bet but still not bullet proof.

    have done a few bad tile jobs my self and hired pro tilers, have never heard of gaps between tiles,
    sure they they are not referring to leaving no room for grout?
