Just to open yet another can of worms ... any thoughts on who will be the next LNP leader? I strongly suspect it will be Dutton ... however ... I think many in the party are aware that Dutton will be toxic to the party appeal. Other options are Angus Taylor - not a lot of cred with his portfolio of "emissions reductions" ... Karen Andrews ... Bridget Archer Can't see the ole boys club putting in a female ... but the pickings are a bit slim with Frydenburg gone
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets dragged in front of ICAC sometime after it's up and running. Senator Simon Birmingham is one of the better Libs in terms of presentation and mainstream appeal. Doubt he's a genuine option though.
I did think of Birmingham - but he made a bit of a mess of being Minister for Trade - and probably to moderate for the string puller
I think Dutton will get it, but it will only be temporary. I don't think he has enough charisma to gather the party support from the public. Many of the Dutton posters nearby have ICAC scrawled all over them... Maybe a "sign" to come...
I actually have a lot of respect for Andrew Constance, and think he'd make a great leader ... suspect he won't be in the mix, as has only just moved from State to Federal ... and is probably to moderate for the string pullers. Shades of Turnbull
Would of liked to of seen Frydo get the gig. Dan Tehan would be my next pick. Really hope Dutton doesn’t get the job but it surely looks that way.
As the thread is about LNP leader and not LP, what about Barnaby? I'd say the Nats are probably now pushing for a larger representation on the front bench, given that they were comparatively unscathed.
Unbelievable the power the Nats wield, given the low portion of seats/votes they actually get. I cannot stand Barnaby ... and prefer McCormack ... but suspect he's safe.
Whoever they chose, I hope they get their stuff together. A government is only ever as good as it's opposition.
