Hi all, I am a complete noob in property investment based in Sydney, in my early 20s, trying to help my parents get started on their property investment dream. Would love to have mentoring and get some personalised advice on my financial situation. What are everyones' thoughts on hiring a professional investment consultant? Any to recommend in Sydney? Thanks!
Welcome aboard If a property consultant is someone that sources a property and finances it then I’d say run for hills. Especially if it’s an off the plan property. All you generally need is a good finance person and accountant - both you can find yourself. If purchasing interstate it might be worthwhile exploring the use of a buyers agent. Cheers Jamie
@Lisa Kim - well done on starting early. It will put you way ahead when you re-visit this in the next 8 to 10 years time. Speak to a mortgage broker to understand the finance set up... and provided they have investment experience that's a bonus.
Hi @Lisa Kim and welcome to the forum! You are at a great age to start learning about property where you can take advantage of the many property cycles ahead of you. I suggest you educate yourself as a first step. Start reading some basic property investment fundamentals books. Margaret Lomas is a good start. (Use search function on this forum). Once you have a grasp of the basics, you will understand which advisor/professional you need to see and what they can do for you to your achieve your goals. The most important part of property investing is education.
wow, thanks for the prompt replies everyone! This community is quite impressive. I've been watching a lot of webinars online (like konrad bobilak's fast track seminar and Dymphna Boholt) but it's hard to filter out spruikers from genuine educators... (if they exist at all) By a professional consultant I meant somebody that will sit down with me and help me formulate an investment strategy of 5-10 years with my current situation.
welcome to PC @Lisa Kim, PC is a great starting point. if you are not in a hurry to buy straightaway, it is a good idea to spend a few hours reading the forum ( and the old Somersoft forum), heaps of useful info on both sites, ask heaps of questions, gradually you will come to a clearer picture of what you want to achieve and what you need to do, and what you can do. having a "consultant" might be a good idea to hold your hands to start, but how do you measure the quality of the advice of the consultant, whether this person has your best interest in heart.
