Our PPOR is 20 years old so the windows and sliding doors need to be looked into...
Initially I thought we can just paint it- they are aluminium with beautiful (NOT) mission brown colour.

But now I think the mechanism is gone. The bearings, tracks etc have worn out. Have replaced some "springs" for the bay windows but only improved slightly.

So it seems solution is to replace them all with new one, with either white or black frames.
Looks that that will be over $10k, closer to $20 when I cost them one by one.
This includes removing the old and installing new which is the hardest bit I think. Given that they all have solid frames.
But I didnt win the $25M lotto:( last week. No one in the family is capable of removing windows successfully.
So here I am, asking this great community, how can I go about this.
    Thanking you! :)

I would get someone who specialises in this sort of thing to replace the rollers etc. I did this for one of my big, 30 year old sliders and it was like new.

However, if you definitely want to replace the windows, make sure you get at least three quotes as prices can vary widely. Check also, that the quote includes taking the old windows etc away too, not just removing them.

It is really easy to remove windows and doors yourself but you need helpers for large windows and a reciprocal saw.

Otherwise, it might be cheaper to get a handyman to remove them rather than the door/ window company. However, you will have to dispose of the windows and that may cost in tipping fees if you can't get someone to buy them off gumtree etc.

By the way, get the window company to do a site measure rather than measure for the new windows yourself as they are then responsible if anything doesn't fit.
