Interested in what the community & site administrators think about adding some optional new profile information under everyone's profile picture, location, etc.

    The additional flair would be:

Property located in: (e.g. Sydney, Perth, USA)
    &
    Property portfolio: (e.g. zero, <$500k, $500K-$1M, $1M-$2M, $2M-$4M, $4M+)

The reason for it would not to look over the fence or bragging rights (although there may be an element of this by human nature), but primarily so people can see a poster's skin-in-the-game, and possible biases when you are reading what they think. This would be voluntary information, so people can put what they wish or nothing at all.

For example, in the "Where to Buy" threads, if you saw someone with property in Perth posting extensively you may be informed by how much this poster may know about the market, or how much they are biased in what they might be posting about.

    Thoughts?

The problem is that there are plenty of people who own property in multiple locations and there wouldn't be enough space to show it all without making it very cluttered.

I am also not a fan of showing data about portfolio size.

Most people are too private to want details of their portfolio on display, while there is also a small element who actively lie about these things because of ego. You have no way of validating the data in any case, so it's largely meaningless and open to abuse.

As a way to judge someone's "skin in the game", it's only useful if the majority of people do it - and I simply don't think it's reasonable or meaningful to do so.

You would find the marketing people and financial product advisors going nuts with unsolicited communication to UHNWI.

Even if they get cancelled by the mods they would just open a new account.

I have a good understanding of my local crew by going to the catchups.

I really don't understand why people feel the need to publish specifics of their portfolios publically. I'll share my investment experiences, but my financial details are none of the general public's business.

Fair points - I suppose human nature is what it is, and therefore the negatives might outweigh the positives.
