Who is going to be the next Labor leader?

Albanese appears to be the favourite, but I don't see him as having a strong public image.

Plibersek seems to me to have a good public image, but I don't know what sort of job she would do. I'd like to see a woman in the role.

Then there's Bowen; Chalmers may be in the running.

Although Penny Wong may be in the running, I'm not sure if a senator can be in the role.

I'd like to see Joel Fitzgibbon with Tanya as deputy - but Joel is to modest to put himself forward

Bowen I suspect wont have much traction with the line ( not an exact quote) "if you dont like it , you dont have to vote for us" on the issue of franking credits.

Tanya P I would hope is miles ahead of Anthony Albanese........

If the ALP think strategically, they'll put Tanya in as having a leader that seems more empathetic with the people would probably win them the next election....

Although Albo is capable of leading the ALP, he'll only engage in an extended ******* contest with ScoMo & likely get ousted before next election.

As for Bowen, he's a smug ****** that could possibly get up on that quality alone.... which would say more about the ALP than him if it eventuates. ...

Joel Fitzgibbon would be a good choice.

He doesn't have much of a public profile.

Can’t see Bowen getting the job as the public associate him with many of the unpopular Labor policies. Plus his arrogant response to self funded retirees about franking credit policy of “if you don’t like it then vote for someone else” copped a lot of bad press.

Well guess what, many followed his advice:). Thanks Chris.

We haven't seen the end of Bill. He wants to be on the front bench and will always be on the lookout to retake the leadership.

I don't think so. The rules have changed; anyway, the party want fresh blood now.

Probably not, he did when he was the minister for defence and had a regular gig on Sky news for a while?
He comes across as a much better option than those on the left of the party IMO.

Sky News? I wouldn't call that a high public profile. It's on Fox only, and leaning strongly to the right, wouldn't be reaching a big portion of Labor voters.

I think either Plibersek or Albo. Not a great choice either way. Ugh. Chalmers as a wildcard?

Tanya I think should be a good option. I’ve seen her on one of the “meets” during the election in local park. She had a witty come back to difficult questions and sounded genuine.

I'd put my money on Albo but I'd prefer Plibersek. Penny Wong should be a contender but she's probably too big a target.

The leader needs to sit in the lower house, so that rules out Wong.

The question is can Plibersek connect with regional public and most importantly Queenslanders? They need to win more seats in Queensland next election to have any chance to form government.

My impression and I stress it is only my opinion of whatever little I have seen her on TV interviews she would appeal to the city crowd lot more compared to regional.

One of the reason Bill got defeated by ScoMo is Bill couldn't connect with people the way ScoMo did. Bill thought his policies should speak for themselves but apparently that is not enough. He was asked on multiple occasions by people who were going to be impacted by his policies and his response was pretty much tough luck. I need that money for other stuff so you gotta suffer. That is no way to treat or connect with people.

Some would say Bill wasn't able to sell his policies to the public and he paid the price. To succeed in politics the art of negotiation and be able to sell your policies to public are very important. You can look back on all successful Australian Prime ministers (stayed for more than one term) they usually were strong with atleast one if not both of the above qualities.

    Cheers,
    Oracle.

Bowen is simply arrogant. He has to endure the night next to Alan Jones. Love it.

She wouldn't be the first to be parachuted into a safe seat.

    Hey! Hey!!!

    Jim Chambers is a Queenslander.

He was the ALP spokesperson this election. He is considered as being intelligent (has a PhD) and a good communicator.

The ALP might need him to get Queensland off the LNP.
