Seeking suggestions as to the most cost-effective and suitable carpet for a rental.

Our tenant, who has just vacated, allowed her dog to pee and poop in the house. Although the carpets have professionally cleaned, the whole house was completely closed up afterwards (by the tenant/carpet cleaners) and there is an awful "dog" odour and pee odour throughout.

Is there such thing as an animal-proof/tenant proof carpet?

And you wonder why landlords don’t allow pets.

    Tiles.

Tempting. Then they can purchase their own rugs for lounge and bedrooms and when their pets defecate on them, they can roll them up and take them with them when they vacate :D

This was a no pets lease. But thank you Victoria!
If it wasn't for us focussing on the long game/end goal, I'd sell up.

Sorry, what happens in Victoria? Are pets allowed regardless?

Tenant still has to ask to have a pet but a landlord can not reasonably refuse. If tenants don't ask and bring in the pets anyway VCAT will side with the tenant.

We are still trying to get the smell out of the house. We even had to scrub the concrete slab. The underlay was stuck to the slab.

Assuming you are in Mel, we use this mob:
Complete Carpet Co – Complete Carpet Co

Darned if I can remember the one we use, but it's the one up from the cheapest one (the cheapest thing was ok, but too thin, and had to be replaced too often). It's the dark brown one (sorry, not much more help than that...).

They've done a whole apartment for us before where the underlay was glued to the slab so they're used to it.
