Bill Leak once said--quote-- Australians are hardwired to pigeonhole pretty much everything we encounter -and then only then are we satisfied that we have someone pegged..

I just hope the Australian investing public can see through Labor side of the road pie cart lost ideas..

My money's on grandfathered, and that's what all proposals indicate.

No one is talking retrospective. But most here don't know what a retrospective tax is.

[QUOTE="RobertBanks, post: 519928, member: 13411"Having somewhere to raise your family is a basic necessity. [/QUOTE]
    Owning it is not.

No one's forcing you to buy anything comrade.

Do you think you are entitled to a 5 bedroom mansion for your first house?

A two bedroom unit is totally appropriate for your first home.

Long term investors would love a return to indexation. Many would not realise it. Do you know what came with indexation?

The pro NG crowd regularly quote this. The ATO figures they quote are taxable income, so after NG deductions are taken into account. They are meaningless in the debate. Meaningless.

So it is not just housing un-affordability that some want us to believe :).

    The CNB, I like it.

How about “Casts No Bull$hit” as a slogan?

Why do we even have to talk about the gender of a leader? A leader leads, regardless of gender. I don't think Julie was any more or any less successful than those that came before or after her.

Would anyone ever say "do you think the ALP is ready for another male leader after the success of xx?"

    I was **** stirring.

TBH, the ALP is a lot more ready for a(nother) female leader than the LNP, both at the Federal and State level.

I am not convinced the members are :(.

Actually no. The opposite. People expect too little of themselves these days. When my parents first bought a place decades ago they bought a crappy unit, then moved onto a semi and then a home. Then they sold the home to get another home in a better area. Step by step. Come to think of it.. Whats that song..step by step.. ooohh baybe..gonna get to ya ger-er-er-erlll...

Your parents are in the minority upgrading their homes. :)

Well, we have been at our current address for 30 years, come this July.

And I thought we were unique.

Done a little reno in that time :D.

Some would call it a KDR.

Was this your first home? Or have you bought other PPORs before in your lifetime?

If you bought a PPOR before you likely did it for an upgrade.

First PPOR was a 2/1/1 unit.

Second PPOR was a 3/1/2 house.

Third PPOR was a 4/2/2 house.

Current PPOR is a 4/4/3 house.

Do any of these rate as upgrades?

I don't know about being the minority.. but my parents told me all the stories of how excruciatingly hard they worked to make their money while their friends were gambling and wasting most of it. This is going back 40 years now. :)

If the areas are more affluent and larger dwellings each time then its an upgrade to me :)

I would say yes and if you move into a unit that would be considering another change where you might realise the capital gains you have paid from the 4th PPOR. Again you are in the minority buying more than one home...

Maybe it is the minority who gets up and works hard for 40 years to make something of their lives.
