I love the idea and can see the benefits of a centralised health database...

But my experience with hacking and misuse of data isn't great. I'm opting out.

    Anyone else?

Undecided - I think it's a great idea, having had 4 different doctors over the last 20 years - but would like it to be restricted to "permission has to be given and access to medical professionals only".

I think it will be delayed as they nut out the nitty gritty

Me and every other specialist and doctor I know is opting out.

Great tool, the government has f****ed it up as usual.

Opted out. A great idea, but the legal privacy protection isn't in place. I'll avoid it until it is legally protected.

Also the governments track record is lacking. I'll also wait until they're through the teething problems.

I am in. Quite like how the centralised system would work efficiently and save a lot of money (eg, British Columbia)
Hopefully they will get it right eventually..

    I'll be opting out.

Even apart from the Gov having a poor track record in data security and building robust IT systems, there is this gem:
"...section 70 of the My Health Records Act, which empowers the Australian Digital Health Agency to disclose patients' health information to police, courts and the Australian Taxation Office without a warrant, if they did not opt out."

Millions to opt out of My Health Record as backlash builds

    Cheers,
    Inertia.

You do have to wonder what the ATO has to do with it!

I work in the health industry and I've Opted out as well.

I've always been skeptical of their ability to keep my health record private/secure and after what happened in Singapore last week, in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, I'm confident I've made the right choice.

Good luck to anyone choosing not to opt-out.

That's exactly why I've opted out. I support the appropriate authorities accessing information to prosecute criminal behaviour, but the appropriate checks and balances need to be in place.

Might be so they can check if you're on private health cover in order to verify the Medicare levy to be charged.

I signed up over a year ago.

Is there a risk of my data being misused? Most definitely. But the benefits far outweigh the risks for me. I never remember anything, so all my future doctors having access to all my health data will be extremely helpful and there's even a very small chance that it could prove to be live saving.

Optout link works again. Tried to opt out but it said I already have a record, so I poked around it to assess the risk.... nothing in there except my emergency contacts and my flu shots.

There are functions to restrict access to my flu shot info with a password, or delete entirely.

Think I'll just leave everything as is for now. Potential benefits outweigh the privacy risks in my personal case.

I'm still not clear on the benefits, apart from some convenience. Drs can already access whatever medial records you have - with your permission. Fair enough you may have to remember or take note of Drs you have seen though.

    Cheers,

I don't have a GP, I just go to whatever health clinic has a doctor available, so I've got no idea which doctors I've seen, or potentially, I might not even remember all the clinics that I've gone to.
If I was unconscious and taken to the ER and they had no idea what was wrong with me, but they now been able to look into my record and potentially get some helpful information? That was my assumption, but I haven't read up about the details of My Health Record.
