After looking at the prices in Sydney.I think only Melbourne can fulfill my dreams of a proper house and a little backyard for pool.but I love Sydney (no specific reason, just assuming things are better here career wise,I may be wrong).I work from home so Sydney or Melbourne doesn't matter.

Do you guys think, property prices are one reason people get forced out of Sydney to Melbourne?

    Should I reconsider?

Is it worth moving just cause of prices,or simply compromise?

Why move to another big city? Why not regionals?

Or… buying something in sydney now and upgrade later.

Thats if you really want to stay in sydney. if price is the main consideration, why not the other cities?

Why not regional, like mentioned, or another capital city? I'm obviously biased but, assuming work isnt location specific like you said and that it's a case of either missing out on being able to afford a house with a pool, I'd cast my net further also and consider Perth or Brisbane.

When you see just how far your money goes here vs in Sydney it genuinely takes many aback.

I also mention this because while Melbourne isn't as expensive as Sydney, well located single residential homes with enough space for a small pool are also preeettty pricy.

I don't think Melbourne has as large a gap between lifestyle/"standard"/amenity of "good suburbs" vs further put it's all I can afford type options.

You’ll find houses with better growth opportunities in cities other than Sydney and Melbourne

Moving to melbourne? the good thing is that you will not have much competition....

Most who can work from home are leaving Melbourne resulting in a increase in demand in regional areas with demand outstripping supply. If you want a city feel maybe ballarat or bendigo? or a future regional area, try the Melbourne CBD....

work from home and want to live in Sydney? Why?
Most people with the option to work from home are in the #exodusBigCity. I know I am.

But… if you move to a cheaper place, the cheaper it is the harder it will be for you or your kids to move back to the bigger cities. Unless you already have a house in syd mel, keep it and rent it out.

if you never want to go back to syd mel, fine.

I was thinking of good suburbs in Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth which are comparatively cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne
Don’t have a list yet, still learning myself

My understanding is there’s room for growth in these cities as well, since house prices are already high in Syd/Mel and the OP is working remotely, these cities are also a good option

Most? I've been working at home for nearly 18 months now, as have our clients and no one I know is leaving Melbourne. It sounds great but the practicalities of simply up and moving to the country aren't that straight forward. Myself and most of my work colleagues have young kids in school, sport clubs they're involved with, friends they're close to etc - which makes leaving a challenge. I have a property in regional Vic and would love to move there but the time just isn't right at the moment - maybe once we're empty nesters :)

Not knowing your current housing situation ( rent, ppor, etc.), can you move to Melbourne and rent for a year to see how it turns out before making a decision on a permanent move?

Also, swimming pool in Melbourne is useless as you can only use it for 2-3 months a year unless it's indoor or you enjoy the sport of ocean swimming.
