We watched The Founder yesterday. I found it a bit depressing towards the end TBH. The McDonald brothers should've been treated better.

They certainly should have been. However, if it was only up to them, their baby would have been a single shop with perhaps a handful of others. They could run their own shop to perfection. They had trouble getting other shops to their standard- and so did Ray Kroc initially.

I've experienced the worst side of business myself, and it's cost me a packet. Nowhere near as much as the brothers MacDonald, but enough to stuff up a retirement. Not everybody out there is ethical and nice.

I get that but I think Mr Kroc took his greed a bit far. I would have at least given them some royalties - even 0.1% would've been nice (if he didn't want to do the full 1%) just to acknowledge their initial idea and hard work.

    The Handmaiden.

This is a Korean period crime drama, from the director of Old Boy. Such an exquisite piece of art. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It beats ANYTHING I've watched this year, and I watch at least one movie per week.

    Rotten Tomato: 94%
    IMDB: 8.1

    Trailer can be viewed here:

Good to see movies from other countries finally getting the recognition. Hollywood movies are abit too much special effects and lack the fundamental of having a good script and storyline.

We say Sand Storm in the theatres not too many weeks ago... and it's already on Netflix.

It's set in southern Israel, in a Bedouin settlement. A young lady believes that her father is more progressive than the typical Palestinian father, but finds to her dismay that when it comes to the crunch, he is not.

A very thoughtful movie, we enjoyed it.

    Sand Storm (Sufat Chol)

I'm glad we went on a discount day though. I would not have been pleased to pay full price then find it on Netflix three weeks later.

We just went to see La La Land.

The lead actress said at one stage "My aunt used to live in Paris... one day she told me that she jumped into the river".

The line I expected was "She must have been in Seine".

    It didn't come.

We both really enjoyed the movie- I'm now reading the book (originally called A Long Way Home)- $4.99 on Kindle https://www.amazon.com.au/d/ebook/L...t&ie=UTF8&qid=1485481482&sr=1-1&keywords=lion

The movie might promote Tassie but it doesn't for much for India.

    Yes I understand.

It just reinforced a stereotype of a poor chaotic country with very little of attraction.

Tasmania was very attractively packaged in the movie, showing some of the nicest scenery available around Hobart.
