Hi all, can anyone offer recommendations for a trustworthy mould removal company: I need to remove visible mould and fog the internal areas to eliminate the invisible mould spores in a 35sqm flat in Northcote. I have had a quote but it seems outrageous. Any suggestions of reliable companies? URGENT!!

Is it normal surface mould (I.e a bit in the bathroom etc) - or is it a really serious and widespread issue?

Has the cause of the mould been identified?

Would your landlord insurance cover it if the latter?

Good point. I think the source is faulty bathroom extractor fan.

Then, if it’s just in the bathroom, use the vinegar and three buckets method (Choice has an online article about this: How to get rid of mould - CHOICE

But your request mentions fogging - which sounds like the issue is more serious?

Can you be more specific about the actual problem (where is the mould, what does it look like etc) maybe with photos.

Professional mould removal is for dense and dangerous mould usually - not your normal mould from not opening the bathroom window etc. They have to be accredited professionals and it can cost a lot - the Choice article mentions this too.

I agree - its too serious for DIY
Bathroom requires a humidity sensor ventilation system to assist with moisture control,
    - The exhaust fan is defective
    - Relative humidity exceeds 55% and is badly affecting the b/r as the flat is so small. thank you!

$764.50 GST included - maybe that is what the going rate is? I don't understand the complexities of the process but thought it expensive given the size 35sqm of the flat.

We had some mould removed in Brisbane and I think it was something like $300. It was a small job. I think that price sounds ok (in my own limited experience).

That is pretty cheap. I suspect the mould isn’t that bad.

Are they accredited? Make sure they aren’t just going to spray Exit Mould (read the Choice article).

Do you own the apartment? If so, what are you doing to solve the problem?

If the ventilation isn’t sorted out, the mould will return.

Does enough air get into the bathroom to allow the fan to work properly?

If it is a serious mould issue, the dwelling will need to be wiped down with Clo2 (Chlorine Dioxide) then gassed using a GITA (gas infusion technical apparatus) using the same product.
Part of my business was mould remediation. We sourced the product from the US.
We used it extensively when mitigating mould issues in both the Lismore CBD and surrounding areas after the last severe flood.
We also use this same technology in gassing Blueberry refrigeration facilities, poultry sheds and Club / Hotel cool rooms.
Remember, Clo2 (Chlorine Dioxide) is NOT Chlorine, the product used in pool maintenance.
It was used after Hurricane Katrina in the US, to remove pathogens, bacteria and mould.
We used it the same way here in Australia.
Make sure your remediator is accredited and using CLO2.
Google it, it is an amazing product.
On average, fee to gas out a 3 BR home was $750.

Do you have photos? In which rooms is the mould and where?

You aren't going to get very useful views without the above.
