    Hi all,

After the recent rain in Brisbane I am having a problem with fast growing recurring mould. I am looking at a few Whirly Birds to help with the problem but I have an asbestos roof so I am having trouble finding someone wanting to touch it.

Can anyone recommend any companies to install Whirly Birds in an asbestos roof in Brisbane?

How have other people dealt with a similar problem?

    Thanks!

Change the roof, there's often government incentives to get it replaced.

Check the govt websites for more information.

The contractors quite rightly know that cutting ACM poses high risk and have a responsibility towards their employees not to put them into dangerous situations.

Is the mould in the roof space? Or is it in the house? If so, exactly where in the house is it?

You cant cut a hole in an asbestos roof. The roof material would need to be replaced. Mould thrives on wet conditions. Is the roof the cause ?

It's in the house on the walls. Someone came in to remove it but within a week it had started to come back. Trying to work out a way to help stop it. I think the roof may be leaking providing the the moisture for the growth also.

Not exactly sure the cause but thinking some extra ventilation would definitely help out the problem.

Find the leak and fix the roof or replace it. If there's a leak, it will affect the timber framing and/or attract termites.

Its not permitted to tamper with asbestos. It must be removed. Not altered. It can be left alone.

I've got this problem with our asbestos roof. My solution was to get up and inspect the roof, add flashing any problem areas, change rusted fixings and then a hire a contractor to apply a 3 coat roof spray restoration. Went from 12x leaks down to 2x leaks.

I don't even like getting up into the roof cavity, the underside of the roofing sheets usually haven't been sealed/painted and you can often see loose bits hanging from the ends of the sheets

You must have good eyes as the asbestos requires a microscope to identify the fibres as that's how big the samples are.

No need to into the roof cavity, everything I did was from the top.
