Personally, I believe the forum is truly a fantastic resource. There are many, many experienced investors with valuable knowledge, insights and tips for other investors to save money and time. I do however believe that this forum becomes even more useful once the newbie investors have done some reading to gain a solid foundation of knowledge. Then coming on the forum to hone in on specifics areas and clarify certain concepts is in my opinion the most logical, efficient and long term will yield the best results. The forum is great at giving advice on specific topics but its not the 'correct' foundation to start with IMO. eg, you read about LMI pros and cons in a book or two. Then you have some solid understanding. You can clarify on the forum and solidify the concept in your mind. Going to a professor to ask all these questions without reading the course notes etc is at best a sporadic and inefficient approach that IMO will only have limited benefit. For the investors who want to make this a career long term and be highly successful, I honestly believe that gaining a solid foundation is important (and mind you its dam easy). I know some ppl will say they read no books and they did very well. I say good on them. But that is definitely not the norm and I don't think that approach will benefit the majority of people. At the very least it will cost them money in the long run.

My number one mentor is my father as he has been there and done that in his life. He started with $50 in his wallet and retired in his mid 50s (could of retired a lot earlier). In this time he has bought about a dozen properties including a block of 4 units all in Brisbane.

Not only has he educated himself I also know that it is unbiased assistance as he isn't charging me anything or has nothing to gain besides being a proud father.

I have other people who I would listen to but my father is my go to and I hope one day to be the same for my child (ren).

Just listen to the person you wake up next to each morning , because if you can get that right everything else falls into place..
