The bank said it was my business banker problem as they have not followed up on and said they have escalated the matter to her and her manager via email and said if noone calls me this time tomorrow call us again!

This really annoys me, "If we don't do what we should then it's your responsibility to chase us" such terrible business practices should not be allowed.

If I were to say something like that to some of the people I work with, it would not be viewed favourably.

The finance industry gets away with so much :(

Doesn't surprise me, I did a large refinance away from NAB last year with my broker.
The process was dragged out over about 6 weeks as NAB somehow managed to stall at every stage. They asked for old loan account numbers which were long since closed. I always found that there was another hurdle to jump through or piece of paperwork to be completed which was conveniently not mentioned for several weeks each time.

They make the process hard but I think it's a bad tactic as I would think twice about using them again for this reason.

Well i called them again today and they had said it'll be 2-3 weeks cause something to do with the discharge team or something like that, when i heard another 2-3 weeks it made me angry i wanted to fly through the phone and grab them at the scruff of the neck and say this should have been already done!!!!!!

    I'm sick of the delays!

I must add that Suncorp was brilliant to work with :).

This week I visited each local branch to see if we have been taken off their Packages.
Suncorp: "Yes and of course there will be no further monthly package fees."
Nab: "why are you asking us?"
(Thinks to myself) probably because I don't trust your bank to complete the process.
    Nab: Yes, you are off.
me: Do I get a refund for the annual package fee?
    Nab: No.

One of the challenges that lnders don't realise that they are creating is this

A broker doesnt want to know that nab et al will basically. Ignore the first attempt or 2 even where there is clear evidence they have received the document.

    Why ?

One day my client will have to discharge from lnder x and if you trat my client this Wah on the way out, you sent getting them on the way in.

    Ta rolf

Yes you can ask for compensation.

Did you contact the complaints section of NAB?

I just did a refinance from CBA to BoM and they did something called a rapid refinance where they pay out the loan immediately a few days after signing and chase up the other bank formalities later.

Is this a common practice? I get the impression they do it to start acruing interest ASAP and have insurance with a third party if something goes wrong.

Not so common but it happens a bit. The idea is to refinance now and let the other outgoing bank know after it has happened, that way they cannot try to keep the client by offering lower rates etc.

It is done without the mortgage being discharged - this happens much later.
