Just did this recently, was able to eat out for a week on free meals, note that some you need to sign up for in advance of your birthday. There was a few other places to that I'll update when I remember.

If you've moved to a new area and want to join a gym, ring all the local ones and get free trial periods, you'll find its pretty easy to get a full month of gyms for nothing. Just going through this now with the biggest loser challenge!

Which forums chylld? I have quite a lot of Cisco routers and switches and a rack that I want to sell. I have just been too lazy and never seem to get around to it...there us probably few hundred dollars of networking equipment sitting there doing nothing.

Whether we try it from this thread or perhaps start a new one but I would love to set a PC challenge.
A number of these Money Hacks are as simple as call X and tell them you want a better rate or your leaving.

I would love as a group all of us to do this and post up some totals. It would be very interesting to see what we can all save in 30 minutes of phone calls.

Would also be good to see what various tactics people use to request the discount.

I'm going to kick this off on Monday by calling all my utilities companies.
My insurances are annual and Foxtel I have already done, will try some others though like gym and see how I go.

    Power to the people brother!

I liked what @markson said about a linked Amex to PayPal. It had me looking at my current credit card (platinum cba MasterCard with a linked Amex platinum) yesterday.
I've never liked the idea of having a credit card to collect points be use to me the theory is similar to paying for something just to get a tax deduction..
However if your finances are structured in a way where you utilise a credit card and offset type arrangement, then why not search for the most cost effective and point/reward/benefit yielding credit card

As for clothing etc, a friend was showing me the "asos" online store (also an app). Some decent cheap current styles on there.

I feel contradictory taking about saving money etc when we let the central heating blare all day and evening when we are home, lights on, radio, tv going. There is $600 a year easy.. But do I want to sit in a jumper curled up on the couch.. Not really..

hope we can keep this thread going, interested to learn more smart money hacks

I got 50 bucks off my IP2 Insurance by asking if they offer multi policy discount. Nothing to lose

    Perception is a funny thing..

If someone said "do you want to save $50"?
You would be like "okay sure".
However if some said "can I give you $50"?
You would be like "hell yeah"!

Good job on the insurance saving. My IP's are due for renewal so you guys have inspired me to give them a kick in the pants..

which kodi box do you use? or do you just use apple tv/laptop?

on another note, my latest money hack: What is 'Cheque to Self'?
apply for 12 months 0% interest-free credit card. Get a cheque to self and put that amount in your offset, suddenly im saving $1000+ per year :p - much better than points grab from most card promo i say.

If you ever do a build get yourself a bunnings trade discount card as you will be eligible for it.

Its 5% to 10% off all your bunnings purchases.

Also use your amex at bunnings and woolies. We get a lot of points doing this and redeem it for shopping gift certificates. Probably get almost $1000 in gift certificates each year when we are doing a build and getting lots of points from amex at bunnings.

When doing a house build, do all the work yourself and youll pay 1/4 the price for the build :p

As for penny pinching... Im not a fan. Some items, especially technology, its a minimal investment in the grand scheme of things but it greatly improves your enjoyment. Ill happily spend 7k on a tv, 3k on a computer, because Ill use them every single day for hours and hours for the next 5-7 years.

I'm using exodus addon. It's great.

Not using any Kodi "box". Just a small zip file from Kodi.com - for Windows, Mac etc.
then just follow the steps to add exodus

Install Exodus Addon Kodi - Movies and TV Genesis replacement

The Kodi box you buy on eBay etc have to be updated.

    This is much better
