I'm too old. I'm too poor. This will be too much work. Too risky. Overpriced. I can't afford it.

One of the biggest traps I see/hear from many 'want to' investors is that they just dont realise that they actually CAN start a portfolio right now. They dont take action becasue they dont have it sorted out up top yet.

It's important enough to you to write a post about how important it is for others.

    Hmmm

Actually, if I had known at the start how much work some projects were going to be, I would not have taken them on. Is denial a mindset? ;)

Actually, it probably takes a bit of arrogance to see something like this:

    image7.jpg

and know that you have all the tools, skills and abilities to make it look like this:

    01112013881.jpg

Ok sure, so we got it to this... but not without a lot of work:

    Kitchen.jpg

The 'too much work' people are probably right. :p

This kind of mindset can work...

I'm too old (not to do anything), I'm too poor (to spend money on useless things to please others), this will be too much work(so I'll pay someone else to do it and save my time), too risky (maybe I need to learn more), overpriced (so gotta find better deals), I can't afford it (yet)

I like that! It's not me though. Mine is this:

it's never too late to start investing, I can make this work, by putting in some work I can increase my return, I can take steps to reduce the risk, buying a property under list price is better value, I can afford this.

If someone going to change their default thoughts, easiest is to lightly spin it, not just trying to overturn it 180 degrees. Someone who believe they are lacking of everything is unlikely to be able to say that there is abundance in the world

Mindset is a lot like religion! Think about it:

    - Some people like to talk about what theirs is (mindset, type of religion, whether vegetarian [jk]) and ensure everyone around them is of the same.

    - Some people just want to get on with living life itself rather than questioning purpose or comparing with others.

    - Believing something is within our potential reach isn't made physically any more possible by thinking a certain way (mindset) or praying (religion). Dorothy being able to click her heels and return to Kansas is fictional.

    - Just because the bible says we shouldn't wrong another person, doesn't mean a non believer should or would. Therefore not believing in a certain way of thought doesn't make make the person a lower chance of success.

    - motivational speakers (such as Robbins et al) are very much like priests / pastors running a church session. Get you pumped up and motivated to do the right thing and keep coming back (weekly / quarterly) to get another dose. The reason they're successful is the same reason drug dealers are; When people realise they can live life without him, he'll be obsolete.

    I like:

"Whether you think you can or you can't...
    .....
    You're right."

If you think you can't, you are much more likely to give up on a task or not even start it than if you think you can...

I remember my high school principal giving me some inspirational quotes before I got kicked out:

    "Persistance Pays"

"The 5 Ps...prior plannng prevents ****-poor performance" and

"Champions are sometimes losers who never gave up"

I always debated whether it's the 5 Ps or in fact the 6 Ps because the hyphenated "****-poor"appears to be 2 words.

I love the "mindset" debate, falls into the same category as the "retirement" debate. Everyone has their own idea and meaning but essentially mindset /attitude leads to ACTION, and if your here and investing (or planning to) you have some form of mindset taking place.... Which.. wait for it, should lead to a form of retirement! :)

Group hug guys!! We're all cool (..... As long as we believe we are! ;))

Different strokes for different folks. Asian people have a reputation for being canny in business. Asia mixes making money with ancient beliefs - CNN.com

Chau, who has been consulting feng shui masters for two decades, embodies Asia's embrace of the old and the new in its approach to doing business.

He has an advanced degree in engineering from Cornell University in the United States and employs 1,400 at a company that turns over $2 million a year. Despite Western skepticism, for him feng shui is an essential business tool.

Auction house Sotheby's only began work on its new office space in Hong Kong last year after a feng shui master chose an auspicious date

Singapore and Feng Shui - Its Powers and Empowers For a Strong Nation (part 2) - The Asian Entrepreneur

Last time I checked, the Royal Family still used astrology. Former President Reagan and Nancy also consulted an astrologer. Just because it's not for you, doesn't mean it's not for others.

You can have a good mindset and still be an idiot.

You can work on improving your mindset and still be an idiot.

You can talk all about your mindset all day and still be an idiot.

successful people think, plan and then do. It's not complicated and you don't need to be smart, you just need to not be an idiot.
