How did the geotech miss it? Did they miss a huge pocket of rock?
Don't they go to the depth that excavation would be?

Not sure but limestone or developer limestone crap (who knows!) tends to be very hit and miss. It's not a solid piece, it's strange shapes, sizes and consistency.

Hmmm. What's developer limestone? Rubbish fill material?
Or just big floaters that get in the way of nice easy sand digging?

Just drove past in RKBLY .

How the geo's missed that is beyond me...it's like rubble limestone. Not quite like along Toulon and further up Swansea which is solid shelf.

It reminds me of the old days (pre1990's) when developers used to dump all the crap from the 'prime' blocks on the corner sites (because corner sites weren't usually prime).

Then I remembered that this is a pre 90s subdivision....in fact I have the old sales brochures of those 1991 townhouses with the contrasting lattice just down from Jerry's lot.

It's when stuff like this occurs is when developers are very thankful they haven't been too light on the contingency as I'm sure you haven't. ..but still kinda sucks but not a disaster by any means I would assume. Tbh..even the mention of rock under the ground scares the **** outta me..

I was wondering if it was developer crap - loose at least is better than cap rock. I haven't made it past yet - might go for a drive this afternoon or tomorrow if can pack a box of kleenex to wipe the dollar tears running down my face :(

Some rock and footing photos for you

You can see on the left hand wall where the block used to be and that we have cut into the block to create a bigger ground floor. image.jpg

Here are the footings from the land developer wall which extended 1200mm into our block so needed to be cut off.

An upside, if I can find one, is that the limestone has provided a lovely access track internally on the block to make getting between levels easier.
