Did you do a Geotechnical survey beforehand? I guess it only takes samples from a handful of locations.

That's my understanding. What happened on another dev in the past was that rock was not detected because the formation was in a weird shape underground.. so where they did the test there was no rock... but low and behold it was actually right near the testing but oddly formed ...so it escaped being exposed...

no expert on it but that's been my understanding and experience.

The rock is more than 1m below the soil so a geotech might or might not have found it. Not sure it would have changed the outcome anyway though.

I'm a bit of a limestone expert - this came out of where I live

She does. We are 6km from ocean but the area is FULL of limestone. We had to put our pool into a raised terrace as we hit cap rock.

Here is MrWestminster in his tonka truck. Unfortunately we don't have the trucks anymore or place to hide rocks.

And that's why you can't do brick veneer! You have to much rock to lose!

We assumed mega mega earthworks due to slope, hitting rock is like 10% extra.

I helped a plumber dig a few drains at a new build just up the road a couple of weeks back. Basically just ended up jackhammering the trenches

Nah, we were all good. Builder didn't indicate any problems with earthworks.

Do you have some contractors that give you an indicative price for worst case scenario?

Are there rock recycling places over here where you'll get a few dollars/t or is there so much of the stuff that no one wants it!

Reuse the limestone for your retaining walls ;)

Yeah not sure what happens over west (;)) but I had a few trailer loads of bricks to get rid of, I could have paid 80/t to the tip or 9/t to the recyclers.
It can be used for road base?? They may just take it for free but you pay cartage. Depends what's around really.
On a job at Tamworth the designers "miss calculated" the cut /fill for a dam, ended up with some astronomical amount of material left, around 100,000t!

It's quite steady. I haven't seen any massive drops. There are some $1.2m ++ blocks that are struggling to sell from people who bought them a few years ago in the peak but that is nothing too unusual - high end always suffers.

BTW Geotech was done to assess engineering and earthworks by the builder and it didn't show up the rock.
The situation has gotten worse today as they keep digging. :(:(
