As of now fivethirtyeight.com has the Democrats at an 88% chance to win the House, and the Republicans an 80% chance of retaining control of the Senate.

As we learned two years ago, predictions don't always come true. The day after in November 2016 was quite a rollercoaster on the stockmarket here.

Calm before the storm I guess, we shall wake up tomorrow and find out what the Americans have in store for us for the next two years...

Let's hope Trump gets trounced and the brakes are put on his agenda, and proper investigations into his criminal activities can begin.

Trump is completely losing the plot. His latest racist and unfactual TV ad has even been rejected by Fox "news". That's really saying something.

The continuous, blatant and easily denouncable lies are exhausting ... I know pollies stretch the truth from time to time ... but when did it become acceptable for a countries leader to tell such huge porkies day in day out?

To be fair, a probability is not a prediction.

First polls close at 10am AEDT, so it'll be an interesting day.

Common in many countries where the government controls the media, there are few outside influences, internet/outside media is controlled etc.

Oh! That's right, the US is a democracy.

I've already heard from people in the US that the queues are over 2 hours long (people are leaving as they cannot wait that long) - up to 50% of voting machines are broken in some polling stations but the organisers refuse to hand out paper ballot papers.

    Sounds like a shambles

They were never a chance in the Senate - the way the Repubs had drawn the boundaries, the numbers of seats up for re-election and that those up for re-election were originally won during Obama's period (different times).

Pity Beto didn't get in - but - this leaves him free to make a move in 2020

I just hope the Dems now spend their time, in the lower house, making good policy, pulling together the country and mending fences, and generally doing what's best for the American people - and not spending all their time "going after" Trump

What is just a interesting is the Governor's positions - the State Governor's will be the ones who define the state electoral boundaries for the next 10 years which, as we've seen, plays a major role in who wins what where

And look for a quality candidate and get ready for the next presidential election.

But I fear “get Trump” will override common sense.

Just realised that by controlling the house the Dems also control the:

    Ethics Committee
    Judiciary Committee
    Oversight Committee
    Intelligence Committee
    Ways and Means Committee

... and they have already indicated that their first point of order will be to subpoena Trump's tax returns from the IRS (which they legally can do).

Hope they behave with dignity and purpose - and simply let ole Donnie fall on his own sword

I'm thinking Meuller will drop some indictments tomorrow after being silent in the lead up to the mid-terms (before Trump fires Rosenstein and appoints someone he thinks will protect him).

Does he actually understand he lost the House - and the implications - and barely held onto the Senate (currently 45/51 - I'm hoping it'll go to 49/51 but might be overly optimistic)

Or is he ignoring the results and carrying on about "tremendous wins" because he doesn't know how to cope with losing?

Everything is opposite in Trump world. Real news is fake if it's negative, losses are success, successes of opponents are failures, lies are alternative facts.
