If you told me it was a demolition job. I wouldn’t disagree with you.

Financed by Jimmy Hoffa's union pension funds from the trucking union he operated, just goes to show it's just about always the blue-collar working men underpinning it all.

My guess is a meth lab explosion on the lower levels.

I would be surprised this the case, I think this is a 7 level building.

It seems bizarre that such a large section of building can pancake the way it did . Residents were reporting cracking sounds in the nights/days before and apparently it had been sinking around 3mm per year since at least the 90s. Will be very interesting to see what the investigation and report uncovers.

If there's any, any consolation at all, is that it happened at 2am and hopefully those who perished were fast asleep when it happened. But it is horrible thinking about how they died.

Progression of the Miami condo collapse based on surveillance video. Probable point of failure located in centre column

We bought an apartment in 2016. For first 5 years, we rented it out. First tenant 4 years; second tenant 9 months (until we didn’t renew their lease).

It was very easy to rent. Nil vacancy.

We downsized and moved into it 4 months ago. Absolutely love the lifestyle. We lived in our previous home for 33 years; we would love to do the same here.

We have ridden the Gold Coast COVID boom, with its value rising 30% to 40% in the last 12 months.

Like all things property, there are good performers and bad performers.

We are very, very happy with the performance of our Apartment. We are so glad we bought in 2016; we probably wouldn’t be able to buy it today.

Engineers report revealed Miami apartment building had 'major structural damage' three years before collapse

The oceanfront apartment building that collapsed near Miami had "major structural damage" to a concrete structural slab below its pool deck that needed to be extensively repaired, according to a 2018 engineering report.

    ...

While the engineering report from the firm of Morabito Consultants did not warn of imminent danger from the damage — and it is unclear if any of the damage observed was responsible for the collapse — it did note the need for extensive and costly repairs to fix the systemic issues with the building.

How many times have buildings had problems and all or partially collapsed while they were digging foundations and underground carparks next door?
That seems to be a common theme.

Yes, that was noted in initial reports about this building - there have been recent works nearby.

This is also reclaimed land - similar to Mascot wasn't it?
