Just read about this and thought of the issues with the apartments in Sydney and Melbourne (and likely other cities).

    Same

In the link …. Apparently 2 apartments were for sale $600,000.

Also don’t expect this to happen in USA, or any developed country??

    Corruption have no boundaries.
Miami is the capital of corruption. AKA the city that was built on cocaine. :D

Tragic to see residence of that building have to put up with. I hope they find survivors.

    It's very tragic.

I was surprised to hear that the apartment block was built in the 80s. If this is accurate, then it has stood there for around 40 years and has suddently collapsed now. I'm assuming that something has happened recently to undermine its structural integrity.

A lot of Floroda is over an extensive network of caves caused by water erosion. Sinkholes in some parts of the state are quite common. It's surprising that this doesn't occur more frequently.

I still think we will find out in due course that something dodgy happened in build process

Was watching US news and apparently there has already been legal action over cracks in the building

    This sounds familiar

US apartment block 'pancaked', with nearly 100 people missing

It's still unclear what caused this apartment tower to suddenly collapse in Miami but poor build quality likely contributed massively to this incident if not entirely caused it.

Four Corners did an investigation last year on Australian apartment building crisis claiming up to 97% new apartment buildings in NSW and VIC have defects.

I can't believe that all buildings don't have defects.

After this incident, some would be hesitant renting in one let alone buying a unit in a high rise complex.

I wonder how the people living in the units on the left are feeling?

Yeah i lived apartments in florida and new york for 2 years and inspected a few others and have to say, the build quality in the US leaves us for dead. A lot of is it their extreme weather events with hurricanes etc, and also the lawsuit heavy culture means engineers and builders are quite conservative, but this is shocking, also strange how the adjoining apartment blocks which seem to be part of the same community have barely been touched.

Will be interesting to read the investigation and what the findings are

You look at that photo, and think to yourself not that much of the building collapsed, but when you look at it from before, you can see that a solid half to 2/3 is now gone.
