This how I normally I play the game. I have been successful last 3 years... but as usual past performance is not an indication of future outcomes :)

Step 1: Pick the top 3 horses.
    Sportsbet odds are,
    3. Fame Game (12) - 4.80
    10. Trip To Paris (14) -7.50
    15. Preferment (11) -9

Step 2: Work out the amount you want to bet so you don't lose if any one of them win.
According to my Excel's solver calculations these are the amounts I need to bet...
    Fame Game: $10
    Trip To Paris: $5.8
    Preferment : $10

Step 3: Look for a special.
Sports bet has a special of refunding up to $50 if your first horse comes 2nd or 3rd.
Bet that amount ($50) on the most expensive horse.
In my case, it is either Fame Game or Preferment. So I put $50 on Fame Game. If it comes 2nd or 3rd then I would get that back.

Step 4: Workout how much you need to bet on others.
    So that would be,
    Trip To Paris: $29
    Preferment : $50

Step 5: Sit and pray one of your horse wins!
My profit would be between $111 and $371 as long as one of them win. Otherwise, say good bye to $129 [IMG]:)

You're much better having the 3 horses you like the most as roving bankers and trying to get the quartet.
There's big money to be made and it doesn't cost a lot to try.
A few hundred dollars isn't going to change your life but a few hundred thousand might.

That has to be exact order though right? Whereas boxed trifecta does not?

That's all good now but what about when the odds change, or are they fixed odds.

They are fixed at the time you pay... Aren't they?

If Trip To Paris wins your profit would be $88.50, assuming Fame Game doesn't place, which is quite likely.

Why you putting fiddy on Preferment at $9 but only betting $29 on T2P at $7.50 ?

Cant get my head around your staking but on times Fame Game can win.
He has run 3.14.7 for the 3200 in Japan
Fastest time ever in Melbourne is 3.16.3
That about 8 lengths faster. Im backing Max Dynamite for better value

I've heard they like harder/faster tracks in Jap.
Could be the reason for the faster time.
The race tempo also has to suit and you got to get lucky with a run if you get into a bad position.
So much can go wrong for a good horse.

Makybe Diva was the best for getting good runs.

No. Only if you do fixed odds through a betting agency I think. If you do tab I don't think they are fixed

I'm going trip to Paris. Has had a fair few wins and its last win was 4000m and the Melbourne cup is only 3200m so it can definitely go the distance.

I got Fame Game from our company sweep. I won the last two years' sweep. Free from the company so I can't complain.

I heard a guy on the radio has had a multi bet going and the cup is the last leg, he picked the cup horse 2 months ago, guess what it's fame game the fav.
Apparently the $100 he put on will return $468,000 if fame game wins..

That's who I'm backing - and I have absolutely no logical reason behind the decision.
