Yeah I started typing that but I didn't want to confuse the issue so just went with what people use :)

OK, So I have (explanation included for anyone who is not across the betting options):

Finche (11) each way (A pay for first and a pay for the place if it wins or if it comes second or third just a pay for the place)
Constantinople (19) each way (A pay for first and a pay for the place if it wins or if it comes second or third just a pay for the place)
Mer De Glace (2), Finche (11), Constantinople(19) and Vow And Declare (23) in:
a Box Exacta (any of them to come first and second in any order)
a box trifecta (any of them to come first, second and third in any order)
a box first 4 (all of them to come in first, second, third and fourth in any order)
Each of these has their own betting pool so you don't know the odds until the race is over and everything is calculated out to how many dividends there are.

That should do me for this race I think :).

I liked him as a bit of a roughie but you can't bet on em all so I had to drop him from my selections :)

It’s much simpler these days with decimal odds.
When I was young the bookies were still writing out handwritten tickets with fractional odds such as 1/2 (2 to 1 on), 11/8, 6/4, 7/4, 13/8, 15/2, etc.
They had to be sharp with their calculations to manage their books on the fly, now it’s all automated.

@Sackie you make more from your grind than Melbourne Cup can give you.
