Yep! It's definitely like this in Sydney.

We have a number of Property Managers and Mortgage Brokers attending regularly, however I have not noticed any have tried drumming up business. In fact the opposite. They are very happy to discuss any property related issue that comes up in conversation, often however they are asked about there expertise as property managers and mortgage brokers and are very free with info without pushing their business.
Of course discussion goes the way the participants lead it, and if that means off property topic, then so be it. It is a very friendly low key atmosphere, discussion is usually property related, but not always. If any participant wants more property discussion, then it is up to them to engage in more property discussion.

I find I will talk about anything, but only work (ie. rental market) when prompted. One prime reason is I'm not there to spruik my business - I've known most of the members there for 7.5 years and since I moved to Melbourne and started going to the meet ups and some even longer than that from chatting on SS.

In my experience I have never seen someone walk in trying to get business, but everyone is there to learn. Sure, sometimes we're not just talking about property, but if you want the conversation everyone will talk about it and there's plenty of very experiences investors in the room.

Same at the westside meetups. Nobody tries to drum up business but rather get embarrassed if introduced by mention of their job function.

I have found however that some folks that are yet to invest come along wanting and hoping to sit next to an industry professional such as a mortgage broker, as they are keen to find someone pleasant to work with that can help get them started with their investing.

Other folks just like to talk about anything which may or may not be property related.

I have not been able to attend the Melbourne Meetings for quite a while as I was banned from night driving!!! Now that I have had the cataracts removed and am allowed back on the road I am hoping to catch a meeting or two this year when I am in the country. In the past I attended whenever I could as I found it good fun to catch up with what everyone was doing. At that stage I was still buying or selling.
A lot of us were experienced property owners but were very happy to share our experiences with people looking to start property investing.
One of the meetings that sticks in my mind was when Daz came and gave a very informative talk of his property investing journey.

Happy to sit down with you if you can pop down to Hawthorn East at some stage (other than Wednesday or weekends).

I believe I was at the meet up when Daz came (from WA?). Is Daz still on the forum?

I think he found (through bitter experience) that if you're seeking a high-profile role (eg public office) forums are best avoided since opponents may (possibly unfairly) use old posts against you.

I would love a meetup but unfortunately work the long hours on Tuesday and Thursdays to keep serviceability up!
Anyone keen on a Friday night or weekend meet up?
Would love to meet locals in Melbourne and do tick some of the boxes!
