For how many years has the rail link been "coming"? Did you hear we're going to have a super fast rail service to Doncaster and Rowville too?

MEL (Tullamarine) is a 24 hour airport. I wonder what the journey on the Craigie line is like at 2am....

Albion East Route so I can take train to Sunshine and go to Airport directly instead of going through Southern Cross

Just use the Craigeburn line...get it done as quickly and cheaply as possible. The alternatives are not that difficult...taxi, skybus...the problem with direct rail links, is that they assume everybody needs to get to the CBD, when in fact people are disbursing everywhere.

There are plenty of major cities without a direct rail link to the airport. If it must be done, then a skyrail or duel line mono-rail system above the existing road corridors is quick and minimal impact on neighborhoods. That's of course if we can stand to look at them. Then you could put a fast train in to the Avalon Airport and have a real alternative.

It will likely be the cheapest option
So they can say they did it (finally)
Too bad they dont have a plan to continue it past the airport and service new developments further north !

Railbus or put on an infrequent service (or fallback to skunks service).

Initial study done by PTV shows Albion route is the preferred one, let’s hope it won’t be swayed by the federal government.

It’s the only option to include regional areas without adding more strain to the CBD. 545EE36B-BFF8-45DC-8E3C-AA79A0AA3E20.png

I expect the airport rail to be one of the biggest failures in infrastructure. Melbourne is a city where people expect to drive. Hell they even drive to the MCG and city for sport.

Two passengers makes rail unviable esp if its a private link owned by Mac Bank like Sydney are stuck with. Its largely sole travellers or those with no car. In Sydney the proposed new airport will have metro rail in multiple directions to give it some chance.

I dont know why they dont build a skyrail suspended over the Tulla section. Little if any land to buy. Planning to take it over places like Broadie are a joke...40mins to the airport ? Unless its a TGV

The biggest issue in big cities in Australia esp Sydney and Melbourne is people have to go to CBD for most of the good jobs. No decentralization. No big and good employment hubs outside the CBD. Look at Singapore to learn a thing or two about creating several hubs.

There probably won't be one if it's anything like Brisbane airport train.

Brisbane is also a 24 hour airport.

Two out of the 4 options have a stop at the defence site near highpoint. Separate to this airport link project has there been any news if/when that site will be developed? Or is it tied in with this project that it will only be developed in conjunction to the airport link project?
