What does everyone think of the proposed 3rd runway at Melbourne Aiport, and how it will impact home values in the areas underneath the proposed new flight path?

The final Master Development Plan is due for release in 2018/19, but the draft master plan already strongly suggests a new east-west runway and flightpath which will be overhead Westmeadows, Gladstone Park, Jacana, Broadmeadows.

Jacana and Broadmeadows seemed like a good investment prospect to me previously. Will most people overlook this, or will this be disastrous to the long-term cg of these suburbs?

The proposed alignment is shown on my 2014 Melway with warnings that adjacent areas may be affected by aircraft noise. A couple of years ago I heard a talk by Michael Buxton in which he said that one of Melbourne's great assets was a curfew-free airport and no development that prejudices this should have been allowed.

Broadmeadows has not grown in value since 2018 so yeah maybe it did affect it.

I pulled out of buying a property with big land due to this runway issue, it was in section 32 clearly mentioned the restrictions due to flight path over Broadmeadows area

A third (parallel) runway is desperately needed.

I haven't followed the plans very closely, but I imagine the options would be limited given the geography of the area around the airport.

Ahhhh, them were the days. Melways, UBD, Gregorys etc were the go-to which would indicate proposed, planned or announced infrastructure such as the Castlereagh Freeway, Northern Expressway, nuclear waste facility. Gen X, Y & Z don't know what they're missing.
