Medicare Levy Surcharge

I know of someone who brought their parent into the country & they had a pre-existing condition fixed. No idea how they got away with it (it was probably 12-15 years ago) but it would have been pretty obvious - he couldn't have had a Medicare card to start with.

 

Private Health isn't free. If everyone uses more than their premiums, then premiums will continue to rise rapidly. It's a business, they still need to have enough cash on hand to cover all expenses.

If you could go to a public hospital for free (paid for by government/medicare), then why would you let your insurance company pay the government when your taxes would cover it? By making the insurance company pay, you increase their expenses which in turn increases premiums the next year.

 

But the cost to the PHI company should not be any more if you go private in a public hospital or private in a private hospital.

 

It is.

The options is between going public for free under medicare or public for a cost to the PHI. There is a difference in cost.
