I once threw myself off a balcony. Luckily it was a ground floor apartment. I wasn't depressed or anything, just drunk and showing off.

How lucky ae we in Australia? I dudn't have to pay a cent for the ambo. Private health cover paid for it.

Well, I've been working for 18 years and have just $160 approximately
The average super balance is much less than than $500k. More like $100k for men and $50k for women.

Average super on retirement is also a long way off $500k:

I posted a link above that indicates that average super is quite a bit lower than the $500k quoted, both for those under 55 and those over.

In addition, the ABS 6553 report on income has the ABS data on super) and says the same thing.

That median wealth thing is quite old when dollar was worth something. Not anymore.

Yes it is quite a bit lower. Not too shabby for couples in the 60-64 age bracket though. It's around $430,000 when the male and female figures are added together.

This stood out to me. ACT has the highest worth. Considering the main employer is the government (directly and indirectly), it seems like, as a taxpayer, I should be outraged somehow.o_O

The government Super scheme is 15.4% of your wage. For most Aussies it's around 9%. Over time that makes a huge difference.

Something that you can't measure is the natural beauty of our land and we don't have to pay for clean air. I love road trips

ABS 6523 - Household Income and Wealth Australia 2013-2014,
published in March 2016, is the latest data from the ABS.

(Previous post had the cat. number slightly wrong - 6553 is the user guide).

I am gobsmacked that QLDers are the least wealthy in the nation!
Hopefully that will change after this upcoming property boom in Brissie that we've all been waiting for the past 2 years happens :D

What concerns me is that the mining boom is over ......we may see our standards slip back over the next decade?????

I would have expected Tassie to be the least wealthy.
In saying this though, we are now seeing the Tassie market spike upwards.

Singapore has 2 proper world-class universities and several other universities. Fees, even for international students, are probably a bit more than third of that $65,000/year they are currently paying for exxy private school.

A really nice position to be in - to be able to pay $9000/month in rent. SGD is pretty much parity with AUD.

I doubt any sought-after expat would accept that sort of overseas high paying job without school fees and rent being part of the salary package - or very adequately compensated for!

Though that may not include uni fees.

Of course. You need to do the calculations and the numbers need to stack up.

Well it's a safe place at least. If we had the same types of drug laws here we could get rid of the ice scourge we have in Oz. But I do find the laws restricting free speech and expression in Singapore to be highly oppressive I must say.
