Hopefully this means we'll see the back of the Masters dev in Noosa, they should have accepted the councils rejection of the original development app and saved themselves a lot of drama/cash.

Can we get rid of that big green eyesore full of overpriced, low quality imports next?

    Who would fill the void?

I'd like to see the Mitre10 or Home hardware fill it, but would they be any better?

In regional areas like the northern end of the Sunshine Coast where we still have a lot of independent nurseries and building supply businesses I think the Metcash/Mitre10 business model is much more sustainable than that of Wesfarmers/Bunnings. Outside of regional areas, I don't think it will make a difference, small business owners were shafted long ago. :(

This was a pretty standard play for them. As someone that works in the Paint Industry- 20% off from multiple groups such as Mitre 10 is a regular sell out strategy

My local mitre10 closed this year. Competition is fierce. It was great, I knew all the staff, got great advice. I could forget my wallet, no problem. They even stayed open for me once add I was late leaving work so i could refill a gas bottle for a bbq that night. It's really sad when you see small business suffer.

Home consortium have since opened various shopping centres. They are even creating different looks for their centres with supermarkets in Mornington, Hawthorne East and Braybrook. You can see them here. The Mornington and Braybrook ones both have Coles supermarkets and are due to open at the end of this year or early 2019. Interestingly, this Coles will be the 2nd in Mornington and 7th supermarket in Mornington. However, when Kaufland open in Mornington in 2019-2020, Mornington will have 8 supermarkets in total the single suburb!

"The [Kaufland] stores are planned for Mornington, Dandenong, Epping, Oakleigh South (including Kaufland Australia’s national headquarters), Coolaroo and Chirnside Park."

one other reason I read was their store locations were inferior and not prime locations. One of the factors even masters faced when competing with Bunnings who had the best locations.

    Cheers

That's why "we" as landlords need to buy in the best locations :)
