So; we want our hardware stores to be super cheap compared to the others; better quality than all the others - not yer crappy Chinese rubbish, not look expensive at the same time so as not to frighten off the customers, and offer more expert service and in less time than all the others.....o_O

My family owned a mitre10 in Adelaide until about 12 months ago.

When Masters came on the scene they bought Danks, which was the wholesaler to many of the independant stores. Many of these stores changed to mitre10 at the time as they would've essentially been in competition with their wholesaler.

I'm hoping many of the remaining thriftylink and home hardware's become mitre10's and hopefully they pick up some of the prime locations to give Bunnings some competition.

Bunnings is a bad word in our house.

Masters built in our local area then Bunnings opened one of their stores directly across the road and alongside. Most tradies said they prefer Bunnings, but we always checked out both, after all ,its just a short drive

With the amount of profit Bunnings make I don't think those demands are unreasonable.

Yep, I got my lighting and some tapware from Masters, but prefer Bunnings for paint. Masters has excellent lighting options, I got my pendants from there for almost half the price of the identical item at Beacon. Bunnings don't even sell lighting in most stores over here.

Yes. I got taps, sinks, a basin, tiles and lights from Masters. I got my paint from Masters too. The cheap ceiling paint and oil paint I got from Masters was fine. I got some paint tinted at Bunnings though because it was closer.

The materials I got from Bunnings was larger items like gyprock and smaller items like screws, bolts and other fixings, just because they are closer. I didn't like the tiles, basins or sinks at Bunnings at all.

Mainly for geographical reasons, Bunnings is always my first stop save for rangehood ventilation ducting and fittings where Bunnings have next to nothing and Masters a comprehensive range. So I guess it's a case of Masters sucks :)

If I were a shareholder, I'd be a bit apprehensive. Key players in the UK are Wickes - hardcore builders store with kitchens and bathrooms, B&Q - much like Bunnings, Screwfix - online and over the counter screws, plumbing and electrical fittings, tools and a lot else (wish they were here), and Homebase - which Bunnings are buying into - which is soft DIY, more like Masters with less of the building materials and tools. Not sure what Bunnings can bring to this.

I bought from Masters quite a bit of tiles, flooring, outdoor furniture, plumbing items, equipment and tools. I have given them some business, unfortunately Bunnings has a wider range and is more competitive with most building items.

The last time i went in for a look during the week, you could have fired a gun inside the place apart from the staff, and you would have hit no one, because there was no one inside the place..

    From my experience Bunnings are pretty good generally;

They must be - they are everywhere now and not closing down soon as far as I know.

I've never been to Masters (not one near me, while a Bunnings is near me) so I can't compare prices service etc.

But; I first started going to Bunnings when I was doing our very first IP reno back in 2001 (Mentone), and have been using various others (our IP reno in Kalgoorlie 2 years ago as well) since then.

We used to have a Home Hardware right here in Dromana, but they closed down some years ago after Bunnings opened up in Rosebud.

They (Bunnings) don't have the massive range that is possible of course (the range is endless for stuff once you start looking online at the various suppliers), but I've found Bunnings to be good from the point of view of service, decent range, quality - they have yer elcheapo rubbish and some decent stuff for more dollars, and availability when you need something right away to finish a job when you haven't got loads of time to search for weeks for a few dollars to be saved.

Ross Greenwood just had a great summary a minute ago on today. I believe Masters has 62 stores and he rightly pointed out that they are all close to or across from Bunnings. Hard to sell. Can see the Chinese getting involved somehow - maybe buy Masters and store and sell Milk Formula :)

you have been a racist here, not a welcoming attitude.

there a lots of high end products manufactured in China. The quality of the products is really depending on the money the purchasers want to pay. You can't expect to pay a $1 for a diamond, I would half guess that where you do your shopping, wanting to pay peanuts and get something for nothing, of course you will get rubbish, regardless where these products are made in/from. lift up your game. if you want decent stuff, pay decent money.

I would suggest you to go to a decent department store like David Jones and take a look at how many product are not made in China.
