As Arnold Schwarzenegger said in Terminator 2: Judgement Day - It's in your nature to destroy yourselves'. (humans)
Seeing as we have no problem killing each other over petty things, I wouldn't question for a second that humans would take out any form of life on Mars if they were hostile. Then say 'we were defending ourselves'.

Also wouldn't surprise me if they nuked Mars first to clear the Martians then said 'It has been discovered that Mars is uninhabitable due to high levels of radiation'.
    Nagasaki and Hiroshima anyone??

I like that we're having this conversation :)

I concede, some materials may be incredibly valuable in small quantities and with advances in propulsion (or perhaps a nano-materials enabling a space elevator) it could be feasible to end some stuff back.

I imagine at some point we'll reach a stage where we can construct materials we need molecule by molecule (or atom by atom) using nanobots and circumvent the need to go find what we want as we'll be able to create it.

And 100% agree interplanetary travel will get cheaper in the coming decades. Should drop a few orders of magnitude in the coming decades..

We already have that capability(assembling atoms) but it's creating (new) atoms/elements that has always been the issue.

I am still waiting for my hoverboard and flying car that we were supposed to have by now :)

I'm aware, but it's early days. Did you ever read this? http://www.pa.msu.edu/~yang/RFeynman_plentySpace.pdf or see the follow up lecture in the 80s? Amazing mind.

Not far off on the hover boards..

    I sure did. Brilliant man.

Next step would be buy "block of land" inside a black hole setup a toll gate and start charging people to travel through time/space.

@Tekoz I've just put an option on the land and will be selling off the plan there. Settlement in 25 years and you must release your deposit to the vendor (me) to invest your 10% into other properties. You keen?

I'd stay clear guys. Too much red tape and restrictive planning regulations. You're not actually allowed to go near the water in case you contaminate it with earth germs (Don't want to be the cause of creating life on a new planet.

Also, too much available land keeping CG down.

Although, if you could lease to NASA at some point in the future it could be a decent yield play?

Honestly, I'd be looking at Brisbane.

However if you're keen I hear these guys are good to deal with: https://www.buymars.com/mars-land Land in future estates from $30 an acre
