Not following politics but I sure hope there is some truth to this article. Would be a ****ing shemozzle to get Bad Boy Billy in with his farcical Labor direction.

Malcolm Turnbull can still lead a united Coalition to victory over Labor

    by The AFR View

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is within striking distance of an election win. AAP

When Malcolm Turnbull deposed Tony Abbott in September 2015, he made the sort of rhetorical overreach that he prone to: stating that 30 Newspoll surveys trailing the opposition was the sign of a failed leadership. It was a silly yardstick at the time. Now the latest Fairfax Ipsos poll, published in The Australian Financial Review today has shown it to be fundamentally incorrect, along with the confected idea that the Coalition needs to drag down another leader.

In fact, despite the conventional wisdom, the more accurate picture is of a government only modestly trailing in the polls despite all the drama of managing a bare one-seat majority. According to the Fairfax Ipsos poll, the government is 48-52 behind Labor if voter preferences are allocated as they were at the 2016 election. But, on what voters state their preference flows to be now, the race is suddenly a 50/50 proposition. At worst, the government is in striking distance of Labor. Despite all the political madness, that rings true in an economy that has created more than 400,000 extra jobs over the past year.

To win They just have to (at least) halve the immigration rate (what are 400k jobs (many part time) when you import 380k workers) and impose a domestic gas reservation policy to win. That would solve most issues ( stagnant wages/energy prices/infrastructure) quite quickly

But they will let Labor in

Only chance the Coalition has is cutting immigration imo.
It's the only populist policy big enough to move the needle and be a point of difference.
Income Tax cut's are likely to be matched.

Momentum is against the Coalition, they just barely scraped in at the last election.

But that is exactly what Tony Abbott has proposed and so if Malcolm decide to cut the numbers, it will give Abbott more mandate ........

I had a look at Nielsen figures a few days ago. It's too close to call. It could go either way at this point.

They will keep Turnbull there or risk losing their largest donor.

I talk to Labor voters and they don't like Shorten.

I talk to Liberal voters and they don't like Turmbull.

I don't know what will happen.

I see this as a really good thing. We are not meant to have presidential style elections. We vote for a party to govern. Get the identities out of politics and focus on policy.

I should run for PM. First order of business, a $40 toll for any non local car entering the 2026 area. Gotta reduce the traffic here somehow .

True. But then you need someone who can implement those policies. It's no good running a fantastic policy platform that people vote for because they want those policies delivered then delivering very little.

Sounds a bit too sane. Perhaps a forty dollar toll for anyone you don't like the look of? Then you can make a sensible-ish decision and everyone will dislike you less as is the way with modern politics.
