I crossed the Simpson desert recently on a dirtbike, and partway across came to a Macca's sign in the desert. It's not been there for long. It's cemented into the sand. The Maccas sign to me was a welcome bit of remarkable Aussie humour in the middle of a long, tough and monotonous track. It was an excuse to pull up and have a rest, marvel at who would have done such a thing, have a drink of water, and wait for my mates to catch up. Crossing the Simpson involves 1100 sand dunes and 550 km of sand from Finke to Birdsville Anyway, it's made the news. Probably was inevitable? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-...nalds-coming-soon-sign-simpson-desert/6631678 It's gunna get pulled down. Anyway, as a bit of a fun point of discussion, what's everyones views on this? As in views on it getting pulled down, at a fair bit of expense too I'd guess? This is being discussed on some dirtbike forums I frequent and the general theme of most posters is that it would be a shame to remove and that it will probably become a bit of a land mark. I feel the same. Interested in views here away from a bunch of dirtbike riders? See ya's.
"Break in case of emergency". Don't worry that rubbish will survive a nuclear holocaust and still be edible..
I reckon it's just a bunch of blokes who while having a beer decided they needed a challenge and another excuse to do an outback 4 wheel drive trip and make a bit of a name for themselves at the same time? Nothing to do with an American multinational company. See ya's.
I can understand both sides of it. I wouldn't want to be out in the bush getting away from the "maccas" and other malarkey to then come across the sign....but on the other it's pretty bloody funny ! And definitely be a land mark to stop for a break and a laugh. Let it stay, don't let the do gooders ruin a laugh!
