Same as every profession in every industry. Some are great, some are ok and some are bad. I think the general perception of doctors is that they've spent a decade in university and are therefore smarter and therefore all falling into that great category, which like any profession, is not really true.

In fact, half of all medical students are below average.

    Allgood,

Do you mind if I ask where you sent your blood samples to for diagnosis and how you were able to do this? Both my wife and I have, for some time now, thought that either or both of us might have Lyme disease. We spent a decade living on a bush block on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and lost track of the number of times we were bitten by paralysis ticks. We almost lost both our dogs to them on separate occassions but have since moved to Brisbane and haven't been troubled by ticks since.

We both have extreme muscle pain, joint pain and foggy thinking. We've mentioned Lyme disease to our Doctors in the past, but most fob it off as fanciful.

Any assistance appreciated as even a negative diagnosis would be a positive development in moving on from this persistent concern.

    Thanks,
    Michael

It's been 12 months this week since we were getting treatment in Germany and the wife is doing really well. She's now working full time in a pretty demanding job (pulling in over $100000pa which is great for servicability which was looking a bit sketchy!!) and generally feeling very well.

Sorry Michael, I marked this thread to watch but for some reason I didn't see the new posts. I will PM you some details. I think I said earlier that the Northern Beaches is notorious for diagnosed cases of lyme - My wife grew up at Elanora/Narrabeen.

I watched a really interesting documentary on Lyme disease in Canada. It's interesting how controversial the diagnosis and treatment are. It also seems like Canada is taking the same attitude as Australia - it doesn't exist:

And criticism of the documentary by a researcher in the field. Interesting:

Not trying to distract the topic, but this is what happened to my uncles when they were clearing a bush block 30 years ago:
    http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2014/02/25/3951271.htm

They cannot eat any mammal now - the only meat they can eat is poultry and seafood.

The small tick can really cause a lot of issues.

There was a story about this on Catalyst a while back: http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4177191.htm

Relevance to this thread is that it shows the proper way to remove a tick. I am not sure if proper removal would prevent Lyme disease though. Ok, I just checked and it appears it might:

The Chemist in Redfern on Redfern St. has a huge Banner about Lyme Disease on the front hoarding of their shop. I heard that when you get bitten you may get a 'big circle around the spot'
In the '90s I met and American Artist in Germany who was undergoing treatment. I those days it was antibiotics by the hundred. ( I think the treatment made him unwell also)
Thank you for creating awareness among our community here!

Really touching and unselfish thread Allgood - hope it all goes well from here. In context, IP's don't even rank when compared to health issues. Agree with most comments, I'd rather be healthy and poor.

Thanks Lacrim, I'd rather be healthy and rich, but we can't have it all. :D Health certainly wins though!
