All ensuite rooms? Might be a little difficult getting finance for a 10 x 6' cell though. Insurance should be ok as I hear security is 24/7.

Each cell should be worth a fortune, only 1 or 2 tenants, solid build, good views, safe, secure, security doors :D

I hear that there's a strict no smoking policy and restrictions on the numbers of visitors allowed too.

Prices will increase in La Perouse... Its a bit undesirable/undercapitalised as far as the Eastern Suburbs go as it has the gaol in the area... with this news I can see it become more popular

I saw its potential when I visited an inmate some years ago. It would be easy conversion really, with a court yard within the 4 walls...huge gates!

Personally, though I generally like heritage, I wouldn't want to buy part of an old converted gaol. Warehouse conversion yes, gaol conversion, no.
Remove the whole structure, start afresh and i'd consider it.

They should get the old tenants back but make them pay a fair market rent via exchange of labour !

Many of the tenants like the place so much that they keep coming back.

Why not, roof above your head, regular meals, in this case, sea breeze at times, and maybe allowed to still run a business of some kind by phone !

A few bucks extra should be obtained if it were advertised as a "security block"... and some wag in the Herald on Saturday mused that should the Powerhouse Museum be relocated to Parramatta, then the residents of Long Bay could be relocated to Ultimo (after a bit of a refurb...)
