Main benefit (for us) is fresh air and light, and the wide view making the room seem bigger, whole wall is a big glass sliding door.

Our Baltic cruise was very port intensive, only 2 sea days out of 14. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the ship enter and leave ports as well as times we were relatively close to shore, particularly sailing through the Swedish archipelago.

I would think that those American people who have been cruising for 20 years might find it a bit different if they were starting now.

Firstly the prices are much higher than they were ten years ago (in my experience) and the inclusions much less. I checked online with the company (in 2009) and the price was much cheaper if we had booked in USA rather than OZ, even considering FX.

Once upon a time you could get travel insurance to deal with all medical situations, but not any more. Public Liability issues.

We did the Alsakan cruise (HAL) and loved it, sans balcony but with a large window. We easily found other guests our age (about 50). Too bad if you pay for a balcony but all the scenery is on the other side of the ship or it is raining. Cruises during hurricane season are discounted for a reason. Would you go stir crazy with an inside cabin after a few weeks?

I doubt a cruise ship funeral would be free ... they charge for everything!

Yeah, except when you look out the RSL window all you see is a car park.

We leave tomorrow for a 14 day Vancouver to Alaska cruise. My son is an entertainer on many cruise ships. “American Jukebox” is his new show.

    I get seasick........badly..........so I haven't been on a cruise yet.

With no idea of what it would be like on a cruise ship, might I suggest you may enjoy the variety of occasional stints on land? There exist very cheap locations, e.g. SE Asia, why wouldn't you return to your land-loving life for an occasional few weeks sitting on a beach?

Cruising does sound like a very fun way to live....apart from the barfing......

Repositioning cruises can be good value too. Starting and maybe monetising a blog would be a good idea.

There’s an American company called Vacations To Go that has a list of cruises departing within 90 days and you can get pretty good deals on these.

I, too love cruising! We went up a notch to a Celebrity brand earlier in the year, sheesh, I am a typical late 50’s and my companion older but these people were OLD. Not as much to do as on the bogan class ones too, we will go back to bogan class any day! Plus, 10 days is plenty, we had booked a bucket list 100 day one for next year, I cancelled it when we got back. We’ve only cruised maybe 8 times but honestly, prices have never been cheaper, some of the deals on websites are extraordinary if you can travel at short notice.
Last year we got an amazing deal on a cruise out of the UK, $600 for the seven day music cruise, so, we did two bucket list things, caught the Dreamliner direct to London, stayed five nights all together, did the cruise, went to great ports and saw Lisbon!!!!! still cost under 3,500 each.

Yes, I’m on one now. 14 days, mini suite, Royal Princess, Vancouver to Vancouver via Anchorage. $4,000 cheaper than anyone in Australia.
    But it’s bl00dy cold.
