Behavioural aspects are continually forgotten in these arguments. We all look for different things from our investments. It’s not always about optimal performance. Otherwise there wouldn’t be heaps of people, some quite intelligent, out there holding most of their savings in cash!

A relatively reliable growing income stream is why I and no doubt many invest in the older LICs. And they’ve done this damn well. Add to that the closed end nature of these funds and the fact they’ve been around for many decades. Just like those who invest in cash / fixed interest for peace of mind knowing the performance will be terrible I’m happy to accept the older LICs regardless of performance for my peace of mind. That said I’m not convinced that these LICs will always lose to the Index performance wise.

I’ve finally managed to put aside ego more recently acknowledging that the length of time investing doesn’t equal smarter. But the one thing I think one does learn overtime is that you need to invest according to your psychological makeup regardless of whether it’s optimal or not to give yourself the best chance of success.

Hence as @SatayKing said both these poster’s view are valid because they’re looking for different things to match their needs including the behavioural.

Hmm, I thought we were having a discussion not an argument.

If we accept opinions legitimately and defensibly vary – how can it be an argument?
If I have come across as argumentative - I apolagise. I shall cease and desist.

Actually, I do realise I was being provocative given the thrust of this thread. Just preparing for my next post in the Peter Thornhill thread on dangers of blindly following Investment Guru’s.

Any rate well past beer o’clock. I’m sure we can all agree on that point, before we get in a drunken brawl.

Hmm, emoticon for "Now don't read this the wrong way" required? I'd use it quite often actually.

Placement to sophisticated investors? Alternatively @Nodrog took the lot the greedy bugger.

Sorry @dunno, as I age English is becoming a second language. Incorrect word, I should have said discussion. And it was a late night at the Irish Pub last night. Then again anyone who disagrees with me should be considered to be argumentative:D.

Back home from the coast but still working on finishing the craft beer from Dans.

@dunno keep posting profusely please, you know a lot more than me. Bloody fantastic to be reading such analytical commentary. Keeps what little of the grey cells I have left trying to maintain some function.

This is literally a quote that in my opinion that sums up investing to a tee. Probably the best thing I've read this year

LOL. Bloody hopeless lot, where’s the announcement:
Just because they convinced me to add a couple of zeroes to my application doesn’t excuse them for not reporting the outcome.

    I demand a refund:mad:.

    Two things.

First, the answer to your question is Nup.

Second, the deja keeps on vuing. (I already know that's not certainly not grammatically correct.)

Lastly, on 1 July something dastardly will occur and beyond our control. Blame the mods.

And I notice from the comments in a number of posts there seems to be a lot of PWP. Not sure that will go down well with the mods but then it may equally apply to them?

Oh, silly me. So yes PWP applies to me. Although PWTP is probably more appropriate.

On that subject for any craft beer enthusiasts this Porter is a beauty. The chocolate / vanilla aroma is incredible as it the taste:

I tried googling it and only came up with 'Porn Without Plot.'. that was enough to make me think I needed another drink - you guys are a bad influence.

hmmm pussy AND beer - now I really don't know the true defnition of PWP, but I think I may have committed it.
