Linear Floor Drain, or do they call it Shower Channel Kit?

I have bought two which is 304 stainless steel from a local store. But our tiler wants us to buy 316 SS online. Is that really that important? Unfortunately I didnt speak with him, hubby did and he didnt quite get the real issue understood. I know everybody wants Rolls Royce but only when one can afford it and when it's really important isnt it? By the time it rust it's probably time to replace tiles??

The ones I bought come with pre-drilled drainholes whereas the plumber's one need to glue/silicone which I thought wont be as tight....

Goggled gave some results but would love to hear your personal experience.

visually there is not much difference, if any. no point for a bathroom
316 is for more aggressive areas and also food grade... do you plan on eating off it?

We recently did a balcony hand rail in 316 stainless, across the road from the beach, and its rusted in a few months. Going a lesser grade would have been cheaper but glad we didnt or it'd be worse.

stainless 316 "doesnt rust" but may be the install, cutting other steels nearby or using incorrect discs can throw other metal on it causing that to look like ****.

but across from the beach you'll asking for trouble anyway. it will happen sooner or later

Exactly my thought. Hence my preference over the pre-drill/weld one.

i got a cheapy off ebay. not sure of the SS but i'd say 304 and there's no rust in 4 years. unless you have poor qulity town water, or high chlorine conent, or live near the ocean there may be a need to be concerned

The only way 316 marine grade stainless will rust is when they grind or polish the finish weld or surface and the disk they use was used prior on mild steel ,something very wrong with the stainless if it rusts in that time frame..
The best long-lasting stainless 316 marine grade comes from Sweden ..imho..

I have heard a few times from metal workers that the country of origin can be a big influence on the quality of SS, even within the supposed same grade such as 316. I am sure the % of various metals for such a grade is fixed so I assume some manufactures mix in more iron and less nickel :)
