Spot on, the world is starting to lean right and good old Bill thought he was a shoe in by connecting with the left. He is out of touch in every area. I sank a few scotches in celebration last night

    What was his name again?

    I have already forgotten.

I bet the ALP will throw his name into the political rubbish bin (or place it on the Corridor of Carnage).

I think it says something about how Australians feel about the ALP when they couldn’t unseat (arguably) the two most dis-liked Liberals in the country:
    1. Peter Dutton - his first preference is 45.4% (up 0.7%) and the ALP’s first preference is 32.6% (down 2.4%). This is after GetUp lobbying against him and the ALP statesman, Paul Keating, imploring Dickson voters to to 'drive a political stake through' Peter Dutton's 'dark heart'.
    2. Tony Abbot - his first preference is 38.9%, just 6% below Zali Steggall, the winning Independent. Tony’s first preference was down 12.7% but the ALP/Greens first preferences were down 15.1% (8.6% and 6.5% respectively). If ever the ALP and Greens were going to do well in the seat, this was the time. Luckily for them Zali stood. I am sure ScoMo is glad she did.
Some news for the ALP:- Bob Hawke (RIP) didn’t have to witness this disaster.

Really surprised that Dave Sharma is picking up 10-12% of Labor and Greens preferences, instead of all of those going to Kerryn Phelps as you'd expect. Those ~1500 preferences are deciding the result.

I think Kerryn Plelps was a protest vote for what the Libs did to Turnbull. Now they want to come back to the fold.

It will be interesting to see whether Zali Steggall is in the same treatment at the next election. At least she will have more time than Kerryn to prove her worth to the electorate.

This thread was arguably about economic matters, but has since strayed into being a general political discussion - of which we already have plenty on this topic. Closing.
