The factions at the federal level in the ALP are similar to the LNP, in that the bigger faction (Labor Right) take leadership and the minor faction (Labor Left) take vice. I don’t think Albo will replace Shorten it will be someone from the moderate part of Labor. No Labor leader can get anything done in the ALP without Labor Right support. The left are not in the closet socialists, they are well and truly out of the closet!

No, just like consistency and good policy. You know like most conservatives should but it seems like something only progressives do :p

Yet I note the headquarters of BHP, RIO, Orica and Bluescope are in Victoria along with foreign companies such as Exxon Mobil, Energy Australia and Viva Energy Australia.

it's where trade occurs - where they dig it up is inconsequential.

Also hi tech is around these hubs - most mining will got remote and then any jobs will be in construction and maintenance ...

Probably - Plibersek would be excellent but too many men in this country can't stand the idea of woman leading the country. Australians also don't like detail or gray areas - hence why simplistic slogans win over well reason responses (burnt Turnbull as well)

I'm not tied to Bill Shorten - don't care who is Prime minster as long as policies sound. Helps if they can communicate it them though. Anyway, fingers crossed the senate is just as tough this time around as last (not sure how those numbers will look)

Not a bad pick at all. I would be fine either Albo or Bowen. Not sure about Pilbersek yet.

There is surely no guessing why labor lost. You simply cannot wield out huge policy uncertainty on people’s wealth time and time again and expect people to accept that. Maybe one! But they wanted to go for Franking credits, negative gearing, CGT, Finance industry trail..the list goes on.

What were they thinking? I admittedly know very little about politics but it doesn’t matter who I spoke to about it. No one knew with certainty what this was going to do to their wealth but the sentiment was never positive.

I think we can safely assume now that NO government is going to try and have a crack at our property tax system for a LONG TIME. It’s political suicide.

Yep great minority cross benches will manipulate the government and black mail into getting their agendas through in order for policy to pass.

Can't think of anything more awful than our horrible senate.

It not just property though - it was really about capital gains tax, we have a system that distorts taxation to greatly favour one wealth creator (capital growth) vs another (income/wage). Same with Franking credits and retiree effectively tax free status.

It so easy for the population to accept terrible policies if it lines their pockets but to trying to unscramble that mess is nigh on impossible.

Your point stands though - no opposition is going to do big policy stuff. ALP probably should have learnt the lesson from Hewson.

I think Plibersek has a lot of baggage with her husband having spent several years in jail for drug dealing and somehow managing to get a high paid public service job without any qualifications. I think the QLDers wouldn’t be happy with Tanya.

I think labor will have to go for a candidate that isn’t too left wing.
